Logging pole fitness?

I am going to a one hour introductory pole fitness class today, and was just having a look in the exercise database and notice it is not listed. Do any of you lovely ladies do pole fitness? And if you do, what do you log it as?

I guess after the class I'll have a better idea of how strenuous it was.. but still curious!

I haven't actually tried it myself but I'd log it as either dance (Latin, modern, twist) or gymnastics (general) depending on how much pole work as opposed to floor work there is.

Stuff like this is going to vary drastically on skill level and personal fitness level...I couldn't even really give you an estimate. Best thing you can do is wear a heart rate monitor while going to class. I don't have the opportunity to do pole fitness as I live in the middle of nowhere, but I do aerial circus acts and depending on how intense it is (are you climbing/exerting lots of force) I can easily blast 300-400 calories in a 45 minute practice (spanish web). I'm jealous, I hope you have so much fun at your class...I've watched some of the world competition videos and those girls rock!!

    AHHH nice one..
  • :) thanks for all the responses guys!

I think I'll just skip logging it, and continue with all my other cardio, and use pole fitness for toning and fun (and bruises, sooo many bruises already :|).

It was an introductory class, so not *that* much intense work - just learning basic moves, and getting used to the pole.. so yeah, probably not a lot of calories burned!

I have been researching it and considering taking a class and the beginner classes I was told burn between 120 and 200 calories per class.

The advanced classes I was told burn any where from 250 - to over 400 calories per class.

I hubby is all for me taking this class, LOL.............and he loves that I started yoga again.

I've taken a few of these classes, and they are tough - probably more of a strenght/core workout than cardio though. Have a blast!

Thanks for this post! I'm glad I found this thread. I'm new here, and was trying to figure out how to log aerial training. I do silks, corde lisse, and trapeze, 1 to 3 times a week. Do you log this as some sort of cardio activity? I don't have a heart rate monitor, so really have no idea where to start with estimates on calories burned. I was thinking that perhaps it could be logged as gymnastics? I'd appreciate any opinions on this.

I have another activity that I am trying to log, but no idea where to start -- I do harness work at a haunted house. I hang from the ceiling in a climbing harness and launch myself spinning across a track maybe 30 times an hour, for 4 to 6 hour periods of time. There is no rest - I have to support my body weight in the harness, with the occasional minute here and there taking some of my weight off by leaning on a shelf...at no point during the shift do I get to take all of my body weight off of the harness. Any ideas on how to log that? It definitely uses every single muscle in my body, and I want to call it more than just strength training, as there is a lot of activity involved, and I am certain that I am burning a lot of calories - I have to drink a protein shake to maintain my blood sugar while I am flying....but how the heck am I supposed to categorize that as a cardio activity? Is there any comparable activity?

    Thanks!
