Introducing Myself

My name is Jen, I am 30 years old and a stay at home mom to 3 kids (ages 8, 6, 3). My weight has been an issue the past few years. In 2007, lost a significant amount (50lbs) and then found out I was pregnant with my youngest. After he was done breastfeeding (early '09), I started trying to lose weight, but really wasn't as into it as I was before and pretty much maintained my weight for the rest of the year. In 2010, I decided it was time to get serious and about a month into really focusing again, my world was shattered and changed forever.

On April 13, 2010, my Dad was hit and killed instantly when a semi truck lost control of his truck and hit my dad's SUV head on. I was devastated and the rest of the year is pretty much a blur. I put on about 25lbs from the day he died until January of this year.

In January I decided to join weight watchers, but just couldn't get into it, it just wasn't for me. I then decided I didn't need to count calories, I just needed to exercise and was certain the weight would melt off...yeah, it didn't. About a week ago, I attempted using Sparkpeople again, but once again, it wasn't clicking and I knew something had to change. A friend of mine introduced me to this site on Wednesday and it's exactly what I've been looking for! I love this site and I'm starting to actually enjoy tracking my food and exercise again. The scale is moving, I have more energy, I'm eating more fruits and vegetables, it's a beautiful thing!

Sorry this is so long, but I'm really excited to be a part of this community and can't wait to get to know others!!!

First let me say, I am sorry for your loss. Losing someone so close is very hard. I lost my Dad, but I was very young when it happened (21 months old) and it effected my whole life, but the loss of my grandmother in 2007 was the hardest loss I have been through yet because she is the closest person to me to die. I have lost all of my grandparents and she was the last to go. I had lived with her for part of my life, so we were very close.
Anyway, your story of weight loss struggle sounds similar to mine. I lost 40lbs and then found out I was pregnant with #3 and through the pregnancy and breastfeeding, I managed to gain almost all of the weight I had lost back. I am glad you found MFP and I hope you have a lot of success here!

I may not have dealt with the trauma you have had but I do understand the struggle you are going through. I have worked out off and on for about the last 5 years. It wasnt until very recently (Saturday as a matter of fact) that I found a workout that I love and I am actually looking forward to going back. I can not believe I just said that... but it is very true. I just started doing boxing and kickboxing classes at a boxing club. What is really nice about these are that you are hitting a heavy bag instead of just shadow boxing (truely use more muscles in one punch and I can feel my Abs more now then I have in ages). My wife even loves these classes... she was the one who got me into it.

I have been using this app on my cell for about a year and a half. I started using it before people suggested others (Sparkpeople from my wife, we also recently went out and bought Bodybuggs and their site is rough). I began a weight loss challenge at the local YMCA about 2 months ago and I dusted this application off again and started using it hard and heavy. From the instructions my trainer at the Y and this tools ability to track everything, I was able to get 3rd overall in the challenge... out of about 40 people... thats not bad in my eyes...

Well good luck on your goals. If I can help and offer inspiration or incouragement please let me know. I will be glad to help.
