Neat post. I've been trying to switch to a big breakfast, moderate lunch, and small dinner.

I should try this theory. I don't eat a big breakfast, never have. I'm just scared if I eat so many calories for breakfast I'll have nothing left for end of day. I might need to try a big breakfast, small lunch and moderate dinner.0

A lot of the time now, I end up with sooo many calories to eat at the end of the day when i'm just not hungry. Now that I'm doing P90x though, I know about how many calories I'm going to get from exercise in the evening so it should be easier for me to plan out my days.0

i do not know what you consider big but here is my typical breakfast
2 whole eggs
2 egg whites
1 to 2 cups spinach
1/4 a green or red pepper
3-4 mushrooms precooked
made into an omlete
4 slices of butterball turkey bacon (I know its processed but I love it)
and a large cup of tea to wash it all down.0 -
My first meal of the day is anywhere from 550-700 calories dependent on the day, then second meal is 350, then 170, then 153, then 150, then 5000

How many calories does this add up to? Sounds delish!!0

mine? it a grand total of 360 calories mind you that's using skim milk for my tea and no sugar. alternatively you can add in a 1/4 of a fresh tomato as well for extra flavour.0

My Muay Thai coach had me on a diet where breakfast was almost too much for me to even get it all in, and then the meals got smaller as the day progressed -- I was dropping weight literally without even trying....I was eating far more calories than before the "diet", not exercising any differently than before, yet still losing weight, and quickly....so I agree with this big breakfast, medium lunch, small dinner concept.
However, one thing I don't like about this article is where it says "Later in the day, your brain is still in starvation mode from breakfast (or lack thereof), so your body will store all the calories you eat as adipose tissue, or fat, to save up for the next day when you try to starve it again."
Regardless of how/whether taken-in food is stored as fat or something else, the fact is that "starvation mode" takes sooooooo much longer than 12 hours to occur. The article is a bit misleading in my opinion.

Okay so today I had a bigger breakfast than I normally would and a small lunch. We're going to my mom's for corned beef and cabbage tonight...calories are not too bad but lots of sodium I'm discovering as I search for the calorie count. I'll do the same breakfast and lunch tomorrow. I'm intersted to see how this experiment works.0

Thanks for posting this info. It's definitely worth a shot to see if more food at breakfast makes eating throughout the day less craving-generated. (and 40 lbs vs. 9 lbs is a huge difference, may we all be so lucky)0
