My friends laugh at how much I use mine, but I really find it to be one of the best training tools I have. Not only do I get a much more accurate estimate of my burns, but it helps me stay under my max HR, and target my weight loss. When I work with my trainer, she wears the watch part so that she can structure my workout accordingly.

I liken it to the guages in race cars and airplanes. The more outputs you have related to performance, the better you can tune the engine! :)

Do you enter in your weight on your heart monitor? My heart monitor watch does not.....I paid about $60 for it but it only asks age and gender. I'm wondering if I need to look for a different one.

I got my HRM from Walmart, only 27.00. It is a sportline, very simple to use, and I would honestly be lost with out it.
I do not use a chest strap, even though people tell me I should. I think it is accurate, and its so simple!

I bought the Garmin 405cx. It is definitely on the high end of things. I enter weight, resting HR, gender and age. I think the cal burns are pretty accurate. I also like the gps/ altimeter feature as I am a hiker and backpacker. I love being able to log in and see the entire profile of my workout. Here is a link to one of my long hikes from last summer...
