I'm going out to dinner for a friends birthday tonight to a mexican restaurant.. any suggestions for low cal dinners? I have 837 calories left for the day! I already input my breakfast and lunch.... I like pretty much anything, so any suggestions would be great!
Thanks Y'all! :flowerforyou:

Mexican actually can have a lot of great options-- do you have access to the menu? I can take a look at it for you online and pick out some good options.0

Just say no to tortillas. Ask if you can get whole beans instead of refried beans. They are usually tastier and are much better for you. Chili verde or chili Colorado usually are good choices because they don't have cheese and aren't fried.0

is the restaurant one that would have their menu/calories online?
I think fajitas are safe (where you can make them yourself)
enchiladas, with no beans (refried)
tostada compuesta
you may have to get them to alter some things. Make sure nothing is done in oil.
have fun!0 -

Yes! This is their website: http://www.mayacafecantina.com/
thank you!0 -
I order a chicken taco salad without the shell so it is basically lettuce, chicken, tomato, cheese, sour cream. You could leave off the cheese or sour cream (I wouldn't leave off both, would be kind of blah )0

Wondering the same. Most mexican restaurants i've been to don't have a menu online let alone nutrition facts. So I just refrain from the basket of chips on the table and hope for the best!0

I wish they had the calories online, but they don't!0 -
I normally get fajitas, but I don't eat the tortillas...0

Chicken/Beef fajitas.
No tortilla shells, cheese, sour cream.
Limit refired beans.
Eat fajitas right off the plate.
Ice tea (or skinny magaritta (sp) if you have the calories)....
Enjoy what ever you get and have fun. :drinker:0 -
why is everyone saying no tortilla shells? these are the soft taco shells right? (it may be different terminology that is confusing me)0

This is definitely your best bet:
Huachinango Al Mojo de Ajo
Filet of red snapper sauteed in a light garlic sauce served with spinach and rice.
Ask them to substitute the rice for either a side of BLACK (not pinto or refried) beans or sauteed veggies, and to go easy on the sauce.
I'd stay away from anything in a tortilla and fajitas-- even if you just eat the meat and veggies off the plate, they are traditionally prepared swimming in oil.0 -
Tortillas are the soft taco shells but just for a taco size one they can range from 130-160 per tortilla. Most restaurants give you 3 if you are having fajitas or asada which can easily equal 450 calories in itself. That's dessert or a margarita for me which I would enjoy more than a few tortillas.0

tortilla shells could either refer to the actual soft tortilla or the fried shell-- both are very high in calories (the shell is high in fat because it is fried)0 -
the tortilla shells I buy at the store (Dempsters whole wheat) are 90 calories each.
I can understand not eating the hard shells....but unless they do something different to the shells in US restaurants vs. Canadian restaurants....the soft whole wheat soft shells are fine.0 -
Don't eat the shells, usless calories that you don't need eat the fajitas with a fork you'll be just as happy.0

If you know how many calories they are because you buy them at the store, that's fine. However. restaurants usually use giant tortillas that can pack in 3-400 calories on their own...definitely not a good choice if you are trying to track your calories.0 -

I really wish I liked fish!!!.. I should just start forcing myself to eat it!0 -
Have you ever had red snapper?? It's soo good! And it's fairly mild, as far as fish goes. If you are trying to eat healthier, I would definitely recommend branching out a bit and giving it another chance. Fish is insanely healthy: it's an awesome source of lean protein, low in fat, and high in Omega-3 fatty acids: all characteristics of foods that help aid in weight loss and health management0
