This will be my 3rd week on myfitnesspal and i don't feel like i'm getting anywhere. in 2 weeks i lost 3 lbs so i was 147, then sudden today the end of my 3rd week i'm 149. i don't feel like i'm losing anything. and i know that its slow and steady to lost weight but in 3 weeks i didn't expect to only go down ONE pound from my previous weight! i feel like by now i should be 146 at least and i'm not! i burn around 170 to 225 calories a day all depending on the amount of time i can spend exercising. i still feel like i'm just not getting anywhere!
i'm so bummed about it. my goal was to get down to 143 by my vaca which i leave for next saturday. that only leaves me with a week left and at this rate i'll just be gaining weight! did this happen to anyone else? to surprise gain of weight all over again?

Don't get discouraged. That kind of temporary weight surges also happened to me a couple times. You'll be back to normal in a couple days. To really gain two pound of fat during your 3rd week, you had to eat about 10,500 additional calories over the 7*Your Daily Goal! I am quite sure you didn't eat that much, or did you?0

I have been having the same problem! I am eating under my calorie amount & exercising more than before so the pounds should be shedding off right? Not happening yet.
One important thing to remember is that muscle weighs more than fat! If you are exercising and gaining muscle--more muscle gain than fat loss then the pounds may take a little longer to come off.
On the other hand as you build muscle then the muscles burn more calories as you use them. So hang in there! Another thing to do is to measure your waist, hips & chest to see how you are slimming down or just think about how your clothes are fitting. Are they looser? Mine are--just a little but that is something! Hope this helps!

Don't feel frustrated. About a week and a half ago I got on the scale (which I rarely do!) and I weighed the same as when I started. I decided to wait another week till I got on again. Well, yesterday morning, after about 4 weeks on a diet and exercise plan I found out I had lost 5 pounds. I'm a type II diabetic and it's hard for me to lose. I was so excited! I have been walking for the last three weeks at least 5 times and the last two I walked 6 days out of the 7. I had to puch myself a few times to get out there and walk, but I know it's paying off. I am losing inches but the scale is finally going down. I still have about 10 or 15 to lose, and I know it will happen.
So, don't get discouraged. After weighing the same for four weeks and then finally losing those 5 pounds, is truly an accomplishment. I'm so proud of myself! Keep doing what you're doing and the weight will eventually come off. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat.0 -
When you get to wear things in your closet that haven't fit for a while, it feels great! So, don't lose hope. I wore a pear of pants to church this morning that hadn't fit real good when I bought them. They're the size I want to be! I know the next 10-15 pounds will take a little longer, but you don't want to lose it too fast or you'll put it right back on.
Have a question. If I'm walking 6 days a week (2-3 miles) is there a walking dvd out there, like Leslie Sansone that would be a good one? Been looking online and I can get a couple for a good price. I'll be going back to work soon and need to be there at 7:30 and need something I can do at home. I've read several reviews of these dvd's and I'm impressed. Also want a dvd with some strength training. Anyone have any suggestions?0 -
So I started 3 weeks ago as well -- at 146 lbs. The first week, I GAINED 1 lb and went up to 147. The second week I lost that pound -- back to 146. This week, I lost 0.5 lb, so I'm at 145.5. So in 3 weeks, I've net lost only 0.5 lbs, which seems really low for all the exercising and eating right that I'm trying to do.
The only thing that keeps me going is that if I stop, I will NOT lose weight and might gain. If I keep going, I probably won't gain and MIGHT lose.0 -
You may want to get your thyroid checked if this continues. I have been very disciplined by restricting calories and exercising for 6 weeks and have not lost any significant amount of weight. I went to the doctor this week and had blood work done. Sure enough, my thryroid function is LOW and I have made an appointment with an endocrinologist. I encourge those of you who are REALLY trying and not experiencing any success to look into this possibility. Low thyroid function is common in women in their 40's-50's.0

That happens to me all the time. I seem to fluctuate btwn a five lb interval.
I'm pretty sure it's just changes in the amounts of water i'm retaining.
You can help flush out extra water rention by drinking extra water... but I don't know what else to do about it. Its equally frusterating to me, when I think i've lost weight only for it to come right back on within a few days.0 -
i have notice the same thing about losing my weight also, but i have had a rewarding thing happen to let me know that i am doing right. i went down two pant sizes. also one thing i always do to get a consistant scale reading is to do it first thing in the morning before i do anything. i have weighed myself thu out the day the scale reads somthing diffrent all day long. i think that its better to weigh myself before i start my food intake for the day. empty stomach = less weight.. ha ha... hope this helped..

You should always weigh yourself in the morning(before eating/drinking anything and after going to the bathroom).0

Drink your water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

Honestly, just do what you've been doing. Perhaps step up the exercise. Take an extra walk today. I have to constantly remind myself, that I didn't put on these pounds in a day or even a week. And fluxuating by 1 or 2 lbs is normal I think. Seriously, keep up the good work, and stay focused. You WILL do this.0

The scale is nobody's friend. Remember that through water weight and eating and elimination, you can fluctuate about five pounds in a single day.
The water is important, also watch your sodium intake. Lot's of so-called "diet" prepared foods are really high in sodium, which makes us retain water, which makes us heavier. Go figure.
Think about feeling better and how the clothes start to fit better (be patient, they will).
In our society, we're so tied to numbers. Focus when you can on the fact that you're taking better care of yourself. You deserve it!0 -
A few years back, I lost about 40 pounds doing a low carb diet. I then got pregnant with my son and found it hard to lose the weight again. What I did back then was take measurements once a week. I found that much more encouraging than the scale. I've been on myfitnesspal for a little over a week now and have lost around 5 pounds. But, I too, find the scale going up and down from one day to the next. It drives me nuts! I plan on starting the measurements again, otherwise I'll probably find myself discouraged too! I don't want to let myself get down about it. Back when I lost all that weight, I found the measurements to be an excellent and more accurate indicator of my progress. Take those measurements and lay off getting on that scale. Good luck to you and don't give up!0

Does anybody have one of those water coolers at home? I'm thinking of calling the Culligan Man cuz I certainly hate our tap water, even with a filter.0
-
I have Culligan water and love it. We have really icky water. When we first moved here I tried to drink it but YUCK! So I bought bottled water at walmart. What a pain always having to buy water. Culligan is great they deliver and the water tastes way better than the bottled stuff I was buying. Now if I drink other bottled water it tastes swampy.
I do not have one of their coolers though, they are alittle pricey. I bought a sunbeam. It has 3 taps. One for hot, cold, room temp. There are shut offs for the hot & cold so you don't need to run them all the time. The cold also has a temp control. I love the hot for tea. My daughter likes it for making jello.0 -
avr1321, sorry about the slight thread hijack there. Drinking water is really good for you though.
I agree with what everone says about scale fluctuations. I was up 2lbs today but I ate out yesterday. I did not go over my calories but the sodium content eating out always throughs me off.
Keep eating healthier and working out. The real key to losing is cardio. And of course drink your water!0 -
I was just talking to a friend about this last night actually, we have the same goal. He reminded me that when you work out, you kind of gain wieght. I've lot maybe 2 pounds, but when I look at myself, I can see I am making progress. Just keep at it!0
