How did you like it? Were you successful? Would you recommend it?

I've tried every diet out there. I had no weight loss with the South Beach diet, in fact I gained weight, as with the Atkins. Protein has more calories so it definitely did not work for me.

Yes, I have and it owrked great while I was on it...haha! I lost 43 pounds and kept it off for a short while before I started eating carbs again....then....yep, I gained it back plus a few.

It can work great for some people. It focuses on lean meats, low fat dairy like cheese and yogurt, cottage cheese, lots of veggies...then whole grains and berries, apples, oranges in small amounts. Overall I think it is a healthy way to eat. Atkins is different as you can eat all the fatty meat, bacon and such.

Good luck to you on your journey! Whatever you decide just make sure it's something you will be able to stay with forever. A lifestyle change!:flowerforyou:

I did it before my kids. Lost 8lbs in the first week. I would recommend it IF you don't have to work a meal around a family. It was easy for me back then, cause my husband didn't want anything to do with a low carb diet, so I'd fix him something and move on. But with him and two kids its TOO much work to fix that much extra.

I, too, had great success with it while I was on it. I highly recommend it for a quick loss.

I trd south beach diet and it worked great... but not for long. I gained it all back even though my metabloism isnt too bad. I felt absolutely miserable the whole time i was on it... Its a fad diet that doesnt keep the fat off for long in my opinion. And it really is not all that healthy. Our bodies NEED carbs. Carbs are brain food and energy! I felt ike I was weak the whole time. Food pyramid recommends 6-12 servings of grains a day. South beach? 1-2 servings. That is not healthy!

But maybe others have had better experience :]

I am not a fan of fad diets at all, but might be a bit biased since I am a dietetics major and prefer to do things the healthy way.
Which is why i love mfp! its the best program around I would say :D
  • If you can get through the first two weeks it's not bad at all.....you get to eat a lot, and I was never hungry....
Lost 7 lbs in the first two weeks.....

I lost 20 pounds while on South Beach but then put it all back on (and then some) once I started introducing carbs back into my diet. For me, it was far too restrictive and didn't allow me to eat most of the fruit and grains that I enjoy. When I'm told I can't have something, it makes we want it all the more.

What has worked for me with MFP is that I eat a balanced diet, including fruit and grains. I eat pretty much whatever I want, I just don't eat that much of any one thing. I stick to lean protein, whole grains, lots of veggies and avoid processed sugar. This has worked really well because nothing is off limits.

I did lose weight on it and have a co-worker who did, as well. For me it was a great instruction on how to eat moderately and healthily, while not severely limiting carbs in the way Atkins does (I lost some weight on that one, too, but couldn't sustain it). I think if you're a person who needs very structured eating, it's a great program that's very healthy, as well, and is very doable.

That's all true. But some of us need the guidance of a "diet" to help jump start things. And then we can flip the switch over to a lifestyle change. Also, if we've fallen off the lifestyle wagon, a short-term *diet* again helps us get back on it.

I an a HUGE advocate of the South Beach Diet - but just like any "diet" it actually has to be about a life change. The first time I did SBD I lost 15 lbs in a month! It works for me - unfortunately the Holidays were very tough on my body and I've gained it back (because I ODd on sugar and carbs - once I start I can't stop) so that's why I'm on MFP, to track my progress and actually have some accountability. Good luck!
