Can we talk about Greek Yogurt?

I fell in love last night. I mean, head over heels in love. I went to TJ's and bought some Fage greek yogurt. Ahhh........... it was Auh-May-Zing! A few weeks ago I purchased the "greek gods" brand and thought "what is all the hype, this tastes like Dannon." But something told me to give it another shot. I must say Fage stole my heart. I am now a 100% supporter of greek yogurt.

Now... I need recipes!!!! How do you use your greek yogurt? Or, do you just eat it plain?

I've heard good things about Fage...I typically buy Chobani because it is closer to my price range though :)

I love Fage too! My 1 and 3 year old do too. I have tried a few other brands- but I am pretty loyal. I am obsessed with the cherry one for a high protien treat. I usually get mine in the large containers so its cheaper and use it as a sour cream substitute and have been adding it to recipes that call for sr cream or other liquids.

I love Greek Yoghurt to, it has a lot of protein. I usually mix fresh blueberries and a little oatmeal in it. Sometimes i make pancace out of eggwhites and whole grain flour and top it with some greek joghurt, a few bananaslices, a few crashed nuts and a little maple sirup.

Greek yogurt rules. Personally I prefer Chobani, $12 for case of 12 at Costco

I can't do plain personally; way too bitter.

Love the fage w/honey. Have recently switched back to chobani though. Less ingredients so I figure its better in the long run.

I like plain chobani with a 1/4 cup of bear naked vanilla almond crunch granola. It's awesome! Great with fruit too (any berries).

Hi there, I just started eating greek yogurt and I LOVE it! What I've been doing is making a yogurt parfait with Chobani yogurt in the mornings. 8 oz of plain yogurt, fresh strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, 1 bar of Nature Valley granola and a teaspoon of honey to sweeten it up. It's very tasty, around 300 - 350 calories and fills me up through lunch time:)
  • Plain Greek yogurt is great with baked potatoes as a sour cream substitute.

I adore GY, but I can't do it plain without some kind of sweetness... I do like the plain in place of similar "creamy" toppings/mixings w/a spice or herb mixed in.

    Sub for:
    Sour Cream
    Mayo
    Cream Cheese
Great in Mac & Cheese for a healthy version

    It's so versitile and AWESOME!!!
  • I love Chobani Greek yogurt..in fact just had some and threw in some almonds..YUMMY!

    LOVE it.

Recently discovered that it is great thrown into oatmeal. It is like a yummy, creamy desert (I also add a dollop of raspberry or blueberry conserve) and the added protein makes oatmeal even MORE filling. :)

I also use it in my curries instead of cream.

I get Trader Joe's brand, it's cheaper than Fage. I eat mine with cottage cheese and avacado, substitue it for sour cream or mayo for things like topping tacos, making chicken salad or dips. Mix it with honey and fruit. Blend it in a smoothie.

I am in LOVE with Chobani with fruit at the bottom. Very few ingredients, lots of protein and they cost $1.50 for one. I eat at least one a day. If I get the vanilla instead of fruit, I typically mix with some sort of granola. YUMM!

I also like to use greek yogurt in place of sour cream (baked potatos, tacos, etc...). When mixed with other, savory foods you really cant tell that its not full fat sour cream.

Fage is THE BEST!! I have tried them all and Fage has the best in terms of protein and sugar content. I will add a packet of truvia, crunch up some almonds and throw in some blueberries or strawberries. It's also great to add to protein smoothies: using unsweetened vanilla almond milk, some fage plain yogurt, whey protein powder as a base, you can add fruit or pack pumpkin or peanut butter and it is AMAZING! It is so easy to incorporate into things!

Make Labneh with it! Labneh is a healthier, Lebanese alternative to cream cheese. :D 40 calories per ounce.

Stir 1 tsp. of salt into 32 oz. greek yogurt. Pour yogurt into (brand new) doubled-over pantyhose. Tie tight. Hang from a wooden spoon over a tall pitcher at least 2-3" off the bottom. Refrigerate overnight so all the whey drips off. Pull out the pantyhose, cut open, roll labeh out onto a dish. Smooth with the back of a spoon.

Garnish with any combination of the following:

    - Your favorite dried herbs. Some good ones I've found are dill, mint, chives and parsley.
    - Za'atar. Make your own or buy it. Usually includes oregano, basil, thyme, savory and other dried herbs.
    - Olive oil
    - Kalamata olives
    - Smoked paprika. My favorite!
    - Chopped, sauteed garlic
    - Honey
    - Berries
    - Whatever sounds yummy!

Serve with pita bread or your favorite veggies.

I like to mix labneh in with my pastas for creamy sauce, with my eggs for creamy omelets and spread it on sandwiches and wraps in place of condiments.

    Again, only 40 cals/oz.

Bonus: You can use the left over whey to make fresh ricotta. :)

Wow. I wish I could do the plain yogurt thing. It is so much better for you than the Yoplait light that I eat. I just can't take the taste of plain yogurt. Even with fruit added it is to sour tasting for me (unless I make it unhealthy by adding a bunch of splenda) My hat is off to you guys who like it. You're doing the best thing for your body. Guess I will have to either stick with the Yoplait light or give up yogurt. :ohwell:

Fage is my favorite but it is pricey. Oikos is second best (in my opinion) and Chobani third. Funny enough, the price points from high to low are in the same order!
