HELP, PMS, Munchies and motivation!

Ugh! PMS really gets to me... I dont want to do anything but sleep... I get soooo tired...
I also get sooooo hungry and munchie... I can eat sooooo much healthy food and I'm still hungry... I'm craving bad foods aka chocolate...

anyone know WHY we crave sweets during this time? Like medically? brain wise?

Just eating a few pieces of chocolate or sweets isnt enough either... ugh... Any tips on some filling quantity wise treats? I get only dark chocolate as thats my favorite and better then milk... and nuts... to try and help with that fatty craving...

I've been trying to think of healthier snacks... or even meals to fulfill my 'needs" and I just dunno lol

Clif Mojo Mountain Mix bar is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. You get the salty and the sweet, 70% organic (if you care) and 9 gr of protein. They are my new favorite thing.

During that time of the month I stock up on Vitatop sugar free chocolate muffin tops. They are only 90 calories and they will kill any craving, plus they are very filling. I'm not sure about medical reasons why we crave all that stuff but I am dealing with it right now and it's a struggle.

I know exactly what you mean!!!!! My problem was I kept giving in to the sweet cravings which kept making me crash when the sugar wore off. Now that I track everything on MFP, I am eating fewer sweets and am not as tired feeling! Also, your iron my get low during PMS and during it. Mine did. Maybe try some iron supplements, of course check with your DR first!!
The only advice I can give is try your hardest to keep away from the sugar urges and keep trying to exercise through it all. Defintely a tough time of the month!!

Try the fiber one bars that are chocolate, they're yummy and fill your tummy. Otherwise, try doing someting to get your mind off of you PMS. Give yourself a manicure, pedicure, facial, it'll be your once a month pretty party! Plus, it'll lift your mood! I know that chocolate makes the brain release dopamine, which is the hormone that makes you happy and mellow, which is why we like it.

I'm just curious - are you a coffee/tea/soda drinker? I used to have UNBEARABLE PMS cravings. Then I stopped consuming caffeine. I have been caffeine free since January 30th. My last two periods - hardly any cravings! Also, a lot fewer of all the other symptoms I used to get (breast tenderness, super heavy cycle, bloating, etc) Maybe it's a coincidence, but I'm convinced it's somehow linked to the caffeine as that's the only major change in my life recently.

I always eat an extra 150 - 200 cals. I read an article one time that encouraged women to do that during TOM. I just stopped and for the first 3 days I have a candy bar everyday.... hahah not sure if it was a smart move but it killed my cravings. Hershey, Heath, and Hershey with almonds. :)

I do Walnuts, it really works. I use to put them in my Smoothies before I started using Shakeology. Now Shakeology alone keeps my craving at bay, Especially when I have the chocolate cravings I do the chocolate Shakeology with Peanut butter and Bananas. OMG I love it. Sometimes I add Strawberries or Pineapple. Delish. It is the Healthiest thing I drink all day and cuts the cravings as well as keeps me regular which was another issue I had with my weight. Find me on Facebook. I'd love to give you more information. I am also studying to be a Fitness and Nutrition Specialist.

Those fiber one bars are great, but they make me very very gassy :/ There are whole websites dedicated to that side effect of the Fiber One bars. I generally get intense chocolate cravings before that time. It's really hard at work because the vending machine is just one floor away and it is full of chocolate-y goodness. Lara bars and Luna bars are something that I use for cravings -- they are higher in calories than a lot of other stuff but they make me 100% not hungry.

ugh- I get the same way! Last week it was donuts...I never eat them but for some reason this monthy my body wanted...needed...demanded donuts!!! I ate healthy food, worked out extra, tried to distract myself...nothing worked and I caved :( I ate donuts...many donuts. I wish I knew why every month there is always one food, one sweet food, that my body demands. I read somewhere that it means your body is craving a nutrient found in that food, but since there are zero nutrients in Dunkin Donuts Kreme Delight donuts, I doubt that was the reason..and yes, my body specifically wanted this type of donut this month, which I only ever ate maybe once a year or two ago-so strange!!!!

I was just reading yesterday about how chocolate contains magnesium and if we have a magnesium deficiency we will crave chocolate. I haven't done much research on it- but it's worth reading about.

I also crave chocolate or ice cream. I usually eat frozen yogurt, tootsie pops(suckers), skinny cow ice cream sandwiches, sometimes I eat a fun size candy bar, also a latte helps me feel better, it helps the cramps a little.
