My knees feel older than me...help please

I have started doing the Couch to 5k and have been doing pretty good until today. I am only on week 1 day 3 and today my knee caps felt as if they were actually going to pop off. I finished a while ago and they are still throbing. Is this common for a new runner? Or could I possibly have some major issues? I really want to continue doing the C25k and run a 5k in the fall, so I'm praying that the pain will just go away after time.

    Make sure your taking a multi vitamin as well as glucosamine. It will take a few weeks to see results in the knees but it will be worth it, esp if you are feeling it now..

    you need more calcium! Ive never had knee problems, been running since sept, I like the gnc brand there chews

    You might need new shoes. Were you fitted for your shoes by someone at a specialty running store? It has made a real difference in my knee pain to have shoes to correct my gait.

    I have also just started doing some work on my IT band. You can find videos about this in a search. There's stuff about it on most running sites too.

    When I first got serious about getting in shape I had a lot of knee pain. The new shoes helped a great deal but I also believe that just sticking with it helped.
