Looking to Improve Diabetes

Options
Hello,
I;m here to make a life change, and lose weight. I'm only 37, but I have hypertension and diabetes. I'm currently insulin dependent, but I still need help. Food has always been a friend that I rely on. I eat when I;m happy or sad, and going out to restaurants are one of my hobbies. I really need to lose at least 100 lbs, and I know that it's going to be a challenge. So, I hope that you all will offer any and all support that you can muster. I will be truly grateful.

I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and I have hypertension as well. I hope to stick with this and take control of both of these issues. I am 38, 5'10" and 215 lbs. I hope to reach my goal weight of 170 in a year, or less. Has anyone done this?

I have type 2 diabetes, also. When I joined mfp, I was 312 lbs, had an A1C of 7.5, using 100 units of lantus, 20 units of humalog at each meal and taking byetta with my morning and evening meals.
Losing weight has brought my A1C down to 5.4, lantus now at 30, humalog (15) and byetta with my morning and evening meals.
Still have a ways to go, but I am feeling better every day.
I set up my food to limit carbs to 200/day, calories 1800, fat <60, sat fat <20. I write down everything I eat, but don't spend a lot of time preplanning. Being a sugar addict, I cleaned my house of all my trigger foods. ESP candy!!! I do still eat some "junk" but try limit it to healthier things like Luna bars, yogurt (non-fat banana cream pie with grapenuts!) and frozen raspberries-these are SO good!
I am not perfect, have slipped a time or two... But, for me, it is critical to be accountable to someone other than myself, so I went back to see my nutritionist-who is such a wonderful, positive, upbeat woman!
If your diabetes is not under good control, RUN to see a diabetes specialist. Not all doctors have a good handle on how to treat this disease effectively. (A past doctor I had prescribed humalog, 40 units at bedtime for me-that was all I was taking. When I told him I was waking up with very low bgl's he told me to take it with my evening meal. My A1C was 10 and he offered me no other advise other than to "lose weight".) It is your life-search for a doctor you feel comfortable with. If there is a Joslin Diabetes Affiliate near you, I highly recommend them.
