Okay-- I need some help. I am apparently the cover girl of the messages concerning not getting enough calories and losing weight too fast. Here is my dilema:

I started this website 2 weeks ago. I work out about 3-4 times a week burning between 300 and 500 calories. My BMR is 1580. BUT, I kept my calorie intake between 1100-1300 whether or not I worked out for that day. I also include a cheat day every weekend where ( I am embarrassed to say this, but consumed 3000 calories easily). I am probably the poster girl for doing things wrong, but here is where it gets funny. I have lost 10 pounds in 14 days. I started out with tons of energy and now I am sick with a cold. On the other side of the fence, I am EXTATIC because I lost 10 pounds!!!! I remember reading some topics from Songbird and she said I should have a 500 calorie deficit (I cant spell by the way) So, what should I do? I dont want to gain this weight back, or force my body into starvation -- even though I am never hungry because I snack all day. I am also worried about the weight slowing down or stopping and getting aggervated and messing this whole thing up. I really hope I am making sense, and I really hope someone can help make sense of my madness. I guess my real question is why do I feel guilty if I go beyond 1300 calories a day? AND, am I screwing my body up by losing the weight so quick. (I honestly didnt know it was possible to lose this much so fast) I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me. This is totally unchartered territory for me.

First off calm down, In fact calm down everyone.
If you are eating all day, and you are eating healthy, you are good.
NOW if you where only eating around 500 calories, then I would be a little more worried, but I am thinking you get over that, because you SAID you snack all day.
Hey One apple is 70+ calories, and that takes me to lunch,
Some people loose weight fast then others, Some a LOT faster then others. It sounds like you are one of the lucky few. I myself and a slow loser, because I gain muscle faster.
The fact that you got a cold has NOTHING to DO with your calorie intake. You can be as healthy as a horse eatting only the right amount of calories and STILL get a COLD! IT IS JANUARY it IS the HEIGHT of COLD AND FLU SEASON, so unless you live in a bubble, chances are YOU ARE GOING TO CATCH A COLD!!!

Well you're doing a great job, you're just doing it really quickly  From your picture, you don't look like you weigh enough to lose that much weight so quickly.

First of all, don't be afraid of calories. They aren't evil little fat monsters; they are units of energy! If you don't have enough, you will have to get it from somewhere--and that somewhere is your body fat (which is good) and your muscle mass (which is baaaaaad). This is why we have a 500 calorie deficit. It is enough to burn fat, but not so much that you're putting yourself and your muscles in harm's way.

Eat up! You may gain a lb or so, but in the long run you will have more muscle mass, more energy, more bone density, and a better quality of life in general.

If you do feel guilty about eating a healthy amount of calories, you may want to see someone who will help you work through that. Many times dieting can lead to an eating disorder...it's not at all uncommon, but of course it's still difficult to work through. Having a healthy relationship with food will make you a much happier person.

Thanks so much! I guess your right. I am probably over reacting big time. But thank you for putting it back into perspective. I usually dont lose weight this fast. Maybe I should market what I am eating and turn it into the new fad. Ha!! No, seriously, thank you!!

Do not feel guilty about the foods you eat.
What you are doing is working for you!
I will fair warn you that you might not be able to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks again, and there will be a time when that slows. I also get the empression that you are an active person. that you do MORE then the scedualed workouts that you might not have considered.
If I where you I would be proud of that steller weight loss in fact. I AM PROUD OF YOU!
    :smooched:

you have a brand new baby in the picture which may or may not be recent - if it is then your weight loss will be connected with that anyway.
if not I agree with others - snack healthy and eat all day if that's the way you want to be.There's never a right and wrong way to do it, there's only YOUR way, whatever way that is. Follow your body and what you know to feel right...
You know if its not OK
    Trust yourself
  • Don't fret too much. I too just began dieting and decided that the south beach diet was a good start for me. 26 years and ive never dieted. Now that I am I hate to fail. If i eat wayt o much junk food on a saturday night I am mad but remembering that self let down keeps me between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. Its freezing cold here in michigan right now and i dont get home till after dark so my favorite excercise of running is out of the question. But back to the topic, I weighed 184 two weeks ago and now weigh 174.6. I couldnt be happier. cannot wait until its warm enough to go for a couple mile jog every morning. Keep strong.

Ha!! I wish that cute little thing was mine! But, its not. I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old. TThe left over weight from them is what I am trying to lose (that is also hidden in the pic-- thanks by the way to all of you for the nice compliments!) But I see everyones point. I will stick with this routine and go for it!! Thanks all for your support!

Yeah!! We are almost the same! I started at 187 and today am at 177. WOW! CONGRATULATIONS! I hear you about the weather-- I finally broke down and bought a treadmil. Running is my favorite exercise. I have the 10 seasons of Friends and try to run to two episodes three to four times a week. Its fun, and the TV keeps my mind off of the work.
