I'm sure this question has been asked but I want to get a heart rate monitor. I do not want to wear a watch. Is there another type that I can buy that tracks my calories. I can not afford an expensive one. I tried looking on Amazon but all I saw were watches...... Thanks!

I think you can have the watch on the machine or in a pocket. It just has to be close to you. It is the chest strap that takes the reading. At least that is what I am understanding.

I have the sportline duo 1010. It is a watch but it also has the chest strap. So I only wear them both when working out. I love it. I am not sure if there is a HR monitor without the watch. Sorry...not very knowledgeable with HR monitors.

that is how mine works the chest strap sends it to the watch as long as it is within 2 ft, I would just set it in the cup holder or something if you are on a treadmill/elliptical and put it on a belt loop or pocket if you are walking or running outdoors. Mine isn't stylish but since I only wear it at the gym it doesn't bother me.

I didn't want to wear a watch either, but i thought a chest strap would be even more uncomfortable for me, so I just went with a watch only.

What about a pedometer ? Do pedometers take calorie readings?

Not accurately unless there's a chest strap.
