Cruising and Loosing - can it be done

With all that food, can a person maintain without gaining pounds on a cruise? No racquet ball court, do have jogging trail, and exercise equipment, guess those and snorkeling and touring excursions will be my best bet.

I always go with the intention of keeping up my workouts since they DO have a gym onboard...but somehow I always gain lol Last one I gained 14lbs. :noway: Of course it wasn't all fat - mostly just fluid - but still! I didn't eat that bad, it was probably the nonstop alcohol binge for 5 days & nights. :laugh:0

I always fall off the wagon on a cruise. I just try to prepare for it by losing a few extra before I go, do my best food wise, keep up with my work outs in the gym on board & have a good time. I don't weigh myself for 2 weeks after...just to give myself a chance to have a nice vacation, don't beat myself up, have a good time and resume normal activity as soon as I get home. Yes, the 7 day drunk is really a diet blaster, isn't it?! LOL Just go, have a good time but don't throw in the towel...just eat right, push fluids (WATER) and enjoy the party.0

I went on a 9 day cruise in October. I worked out every morning in the gym, then did the walking track for at least 30-45 mins, took the stairs constantly, snorkeled, swam, tons of walking at every port. BUT I ate whatever I wanted & didn't say no to anything at every dinner. I gained 8.5 lbs. I'm sure the majority of it was sodium - remember to drink your water! The first few days I wasn't good about my water, then I got a travel mug & kept it full constantly after that. However - if you make good choices (I did at breakfast & lunch only) I'm sure you will be okay. Sometimes I had 2 desserts & 2 entrees! Yeah....I pigged out! But all the cruise weight was gone within 3 weeks after I got home.
***I only had a few glasses of wine the entire cruise.0 -
With all those exercise options, it doesn't seem like it should be too hard to maintain your weight. At most, you might gain a pound or two of fluid if you overindulge at the bar. No reason not to enjoy yourself a bit!0

Last cruise I gained 2 lbs which were gone one week after I got back ( so mostly caused by sodium, there is no way to control that on a cruise). I only drank diet soda and sugar free iced tea on board. I had a glass of wine with dinner and ate normally, but did not go for too many desserts or other treats. We did not go to any midnight buffet things either. We did three excursions, one of which included climbing Mayan pyramids. We also walked all over Key West for a few hours, and spent one day on the beach where we swam alot. It can be done for sure, there is a saying I always adhere to : "Just because it's all you can eat, doesn't mean you have to eat it all " Go, have fun, and look after your health at the same time, it's not that hard.0

Thank you for the quote "Just because it's all you can eat .... doesn't mean you have to eat it all". I'll use this one I am sure.0

Drinking plenty of water, will that remove some of the sodium intake? Last May on my cruise to Alaska, I only had three alcoholic drinks, mainly tea and coffee. I spent a good bit of my time at the Mandra Spa facilities, enjoying the Whale Watching from my seat in the sauna and other activities like lots of walking, and hiking. Going light on lunch will help, but when someone else cooks breakfast, I'm at a loss to refuse. Thanks for the advice, I'll have to remember to drink plenty of water.0

I went on a 7 day cruise last month and came home 9 pounds heavier.
I did not deprive myself of anything I wanted - including dessert every night. I had great intentions of working out onboard, but found we were WAY too busy to schedule it in. I'm typically pretty active, so I don't think the extra walking or anything did anything for me. We did try and take the stairs as much as possible though.
4 days after I got back home, I had lost the full 9 pounds I gained, so it wasn't a big deal at all.
JUST HAVE FUN!0
