Elliptical Machine Calories Burned

How can I find out how many calories I'm burning based on the level, speed, and length of time on the elliiptical? I'm pretty sure the listing that comes up here for 27 minutes shows too many calories burned (337), as the machine typically only shows about 120. Any ideas?

If you don't have a HRM go with the lowest estimate of the machine and MFP0

I was wondering the same thing....MFP lists too many cals burned, it's kinda crazy! I manually change mine to what my machine says...0

The various machines I use show about 300 calories burned for the 20 minutes I'm on. It all depends on the intensity of your workout...the faster you move, the more calories you burn. I would use the machine's numbers as it takes the intensity of your workout into consideration when calculating calories burned.0

I have a stationary bike and it shows sometimes triple of what MFP says, so I go with MFP....0

I go with whatever my machine says bc i adjust my resistance and speed to make the workout harder...0

I usually go with what MFP says...0

I would go with what the machine says. Just make sure you input your weight before you start because that can make a big difference. MFP says way too many for me too so I always go with what the machine says.0

The only way that you are getting to get an accurate reading is by using a Heart Rate Monitor. That takes into account your age, weight, height, sex, etc...much more than the machine does. Some machines I use tell me I have burned more than my HRM and some say I burned less. If you are serious about seeing exactly how many calories you burned, you should invest in a HRM. If you do, I would suggest Polar. Great reputation and the price is competitive. Don't go cheap unless you want to be hassle with a possible malfunctioning HRM.0
