Hi all. :)

So I'm Jeremy, I'm 34, a recovering ex-smoker and binge drinker. I'm 6'4", a good bit over 300 lbs and recently woke myself to the fact that I'm not gonna see 40 if I don't turn this around. So here I am.

I'm using this site in concert with dailymile.com, since I LOVE running...now ask me if I'm fast. :) Not exactly...but I'll get there.

I have to say, having this on my iPhone has been something of a godsend...being able to track every calorie on the fly has been MASSIVELY educational even if for only a few days.

Anyway, love reading the posts and best of luck to everyone!

Yessss I love that you're bringing back "word up" :) I've always been a fan! Haha
Welcome! I agree MFP has been a godsend to me too! And the people here are so supportive

I'm going to have to check out this dailymile you speak of...
  • Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to MFP! I've been overweight for over 20 years. My dr. has preached to me about the dangers of being overweight and handed me diet pamphlets, calorie counting diets, and exercise lists. I would be good for a day or two, then bam, back to my old eating habits. I've been on this site for almost 2 years total, when I first started I would do good for a month, then I would quit logging in. Since Thanksgiving, I've been doing pretty good though. I have a granddaughter coming in May and I want to see her and my 7 year old granddaughter grow up, so this is it! I have faithfully been keeping track of my calories. I went to the dr., he told me to keep up the good work, my liver function is improved, my cholesterol is down, my blood sugar is lower, my blood pressure is great! Ha! Who knew what he's been telling me for years was true?! Anyway,...I'm going to show my age and tell you that it'll be "groovy" when I have my picture taken in my old bell bottom jeans! :)

LOL! I'm the same age as you...I think that died when I was in 8th grade! LMBO!! Don't worry, my hubby says it all the time!!
  • No, it never died. :) It just took a long nap.
  • Rayna...Dailymile is great. MyFitnessPal is fabulous for calorie counting, losing weight and support, while DM is the exact same but for any sort of distance-exercise; running, walking; swimming; cycling, etc. You can map your routes, it will calculate distance and calorie burn for you, and of course you pick up friends and shout-outs along the way.

A fair bit more productive than firing up Facebook and saying "um, I ran today.". :)

Good work on turning your life around..you seem like someone that has quite the will power...keep on keeping..:)
  • Thank you much, Mary!

I see you're posting from Montreal? That's great...because the other day I was running and kinda daydreaming about Poutine. :)
