Hi,
I joined this site 1 n half years ago, i fell of the rails and lost track of everything....March last year, i took a serious injury...and in the process piled on the pounds =(
I am now at a place where i can exercise again and I even have a holiday booked for twelve weeks time where im hoping ill be slimer for (Not my full target weight I know but ill be closer and it will be a start)
I was wondering if anyone could give me some starting advice as to exercise without a gym. I cant afford to go to the gym and as i still have a slight weakness at times with my injury, i dont want to pay for something I can't use.
Anyone who could help it would be greatly appreciated and if you want to add me as a friend i would love the support!
Many Thanks
Angela

Hi
Where you going on your hols? Im sure 12 weeks is plenty of time to make a good start.
I would prob go walking? Maybe every other day? for 20/30 mins and build it up? I would try and go swimming once a week too if you can afford it.
Do you have any fitness DVD's?0 -
I am going to Disneyland with my sister and her family Nothing you really need to be slim for but i know they will be snap happy and i will forever hate those photos!
I have some fitness DVD's, not really good though.
I will try the walking and see how i get on, maybe the swimming too if i can find a new costume lol, thanks0 -
Welcome back to your journey, you can do this. Get the 30 day shred dvd by Julian Michaels, it is a great circuit training work out for about 20 minutes. I am 80lbs over weight and I love it, you will enjoy what it does to your body.0

Do you feel comfortable sharing what your injury was? That way we can offer exercise that won't impact your injury negatively...0

Thanks, i will look into it0

My injury was a wedge fracture in my spine - its around the back of my lungs.
I need to strengthen the back muscles as my postures really bad which makes it hurt more - the drs cleared me to exercise last Sept, but its only now ive been able to take impact and so much movement0 -
Definitely avoid impact exercise like running or even speed walking on a road until you can build up your back muscles again. Try to find a track at a local high school (they have rubber so they give you better cushioning when walking) or walk on trails/grassy areas. Also, biking would be a good place to start. You can probably pick up a cheap bike at a yard sale to get started. Invest in a set of 3 lb weights and do low weight, high rep exercises. I love shadow boxing workouts myself, you can find demonstrations on youtube. If you choose shadow boxing be very conscientious with your movements. It requires you use your core for controlled twisting with your punches and the key is controlled. Lots of luck and I hope you find success!0

I think swimming is suppose to be safe. I am a big girl, but I still get my suit with swim skirt and going to the pool with my daughter when it is warm. Thinking about getting a Y memebership too.
Another thing I do, is exercise while watching tv. Like marching, or jogging in place. Or any aerobic activity I can remember. During the commercial breaks I go clean something.
Going for a walk is nice, but I like it better when someone joins me. It goes by a lot faster.0 -
I do walking and have found that quite effective. Can't afford the gym either and have no time in the evenings for work outs very often so I just walk to work (40mins average 5 days a week). I also find Pilates really good for my back and joints.
Good luck and hope you find something that works for you.0 -
I will try walking, try and get into the routine of walking the dog (someone else does it it normally)
I enjoy swimming, but costumes are an issue at the moment, will definately have one soon though!
I have not tried Pilates, but will look into it!
Thank you0 -
Walk...Walk ...walk... Invest in a good walking shoe. I fell in love with the Sketcher's shape ups after being a Nike Shox girl.
I feel the burn and they are comfortable. Another idea is work out shows, if you have cable. That way you can exercise in the comfort of your own home. Dr. Oz suggests exercising in the morning right after you get up, that way you get it out of the way and you are
burning fat and not just the calories you consumed from the food you just ate. WALK!!!0
