I haven't found it has slowed down mine, I drink probably around 96oz a day as well, I find it aids in my weightloss because I'm not drinking sugary drinks and eating less at meals because im already full from water0

Water only helps.0

far as i know -- No!
Ive read that the more water you drink the less you retain, and the better your kidneys and intestines flush waste.
I am not a doctor or personal trainer though.0 -
it is "possible" and even lethal to drink too much water it is called water intoxication, however, 96oz is no where near that much, I know people who have lost 100lbs+ you drink over 120oz every day.0

It is possible to drink too much water. Not sure how much is too much but there is a condition known as water intoxication which can be serious with loss of electrolytes, etc. I would get a medical opinion on this question.0

wow, you guys drink soooo much water. I can't even get my 8 glasses. How do you manage to do it?0

10-12 glasses a day is fine for the average person and no it will not slow down weight loss, it only helps to flush out excess waste which is what happens when the body burns fat. Most days I drink that amount and on workout days I will drink nearly 1. times that as I work hard and sweat it out.0

If water is all you're drinking you should be fine with that amount, unless you live in a hot climate (I do!) then you might need a little more. The average person needs about 100 oz. of water a day from water AND all other beverages.
Keep in mind that if you drink too much water that you are flushing electrolytes out of your system as you do. People have actually died after water drinking contests for that reason (there was a well publicized case a few years ago where a woman died after a radio station contest). I doubt that will be a problem for you, but there is definitely a limit to how much water you should drink in a day. Keep in mind that the food you eat contains water, too. I've actually read it's better to focus on getting less sodium and more potassium than to worry about drinking enough water.0 -
The only time that I know of that drinking too much water can have negative effects is if you're a nursing mother. Also, I would assume if you fill up on water and don't get enough nutrition you will suffer for that. If you are balancing a good diet, than drink away!0

thats a good question cuz i drink about a gallon a day so i don't over eat, anyways this is an article that i found that might be helpful http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm0

When I don't feel like drinking water... I use a straw and the water goes down faster. I figure it's better to suck down a bottle of water in 2 minutes than not drink any at all. Since eliminating soda from my life, I find that drinking water is easier for me. I even crave it sometimes. I use to hate the taste of water too. lol0

Water intoxication is dangerous and can be fatal, but it is very unlikely to hit anyone in our health state unless thee are some underlying health issues. Basically it isn't the water that is the problem but the decrease in sodium in our body. If it gets too low then it causes the brain to malfunction.
Marathon and extreme distance runners are susceptible to this, because they are sweating so much and drinking fluids that their electrolytes (including sodium) can get out of whack. First signs are generally confusion.
It would be something to be afraid of if you are doing heavy exercise 90+ minutes a day in warm weather, and even then it is more of a matter of drinking sodium and electrolyte supplements to keep the body chemistry balanced.
Otherwise drink away, the more the merrier!0 -
Fun fact to share about drinking a lot of water.... The colder the water is, the better. Your body has to work harder to warm the cold water up to 98 degrees therefore it burns more calories. If you make sure all the water you drink is ice cold, your body will burn about 70 extra calories per day warming it up (assuming you are drinking your 8 cups/day)! Doesn't seem like much but over the long haul it adds up.

I have recently moved away from primarily diet pops ( used to drink between 6 and 10 a day) and I have wondered this my self and done some research on the subject. Below are some of the websites that discuss the matter. Even after my research I consume approximately 96 oz a day, some times more some times less it just depends on how thirsty I feel.

As people have said .. you can drink too much water, but 96oz isn't close. I drink 182.5 oz (5.4L / 1.42gal) of *WATER* a day (not counting coffee and such) .. so you're fine.
P.S. as a side note, that how I lost so much weight .. running to the bathroom every 10 minutes LOL0 -
You can oversaturate your body so ask your doctor exactly how much. There was a prank on a radio station a few years ago where the contestants had to drink as much water as they could and one contestant died from it.0

Thank you all... so now I have to find another reason why I've been at the same weight for the last 3 weeks, even if I count everything that goes into my mouth and that I go to the gym 3 times a week...:embarassed:0

Make sure you're measuring yourself. You may find that you're losing inches but not weight. That's more important, in my opinion.0
