PCOS...

Does anyone else here have polycystic ovarian syndrome? Are you struggling like mad to release any weight!?! I have been getting very discouraged because my weightloss is beyond sloooow. Any suggestions from those w/ PCOS who are having success would be greatly appreciated.

    I have PCOS and so do many other girls on here. I think alot of us have had success with a low GI diet. I am on a low carb diet and have dropped 10 pounds with ease. :)

    I have PCOS and just had my first child 13 months ago. I am a fortunate PCOSer in which I do not exhibit Insulin resistance thus its not easy for me to lose weight but not extremely hard. However having PCOS makes us so much more prone to gaining weight quickly. I found after high school when I dropped 90lbs I did a very low fat diet and that seemed to work pretty fast. This time around after baby (gained 60lbs) I still have 15lbs to go and I am exercising along with doing a 1200 calorie diet and the weight is coming off alot slower. Wishing you the best of luck!!!
  • I have lost some weight but I keep regaing and losing the same few pounds. I am 48 and need to lose 50-70lbs. so one would think with that substantial amount at least initially I would have a steady loss. I got so frustrated I dropped down to 900 cal per day for 5 days then my regular intake for 2 days, plus 4 days of 65 minutes on the treadmill and I actually gained 1 pound. Grrrrrrr.
    Anyway thank you for the input. I am looking at trying South Beach diet because it seems llike something I could do forever. Thank again for the info/encouragement!
  • There's hope hun. Lots of women have this and unfortunately the medical community still doesn't know too much. But, it's still worth talking to your doctor (in particular a specialist like an Endocrinologist who has experience with PCOS). I've been working really hard at losing weight for over a year and I'm down 40lbs. It's hard work. Diet definitely helps. Try and be lean with sugars and carbs, but go nuts with vegetables and lean proteins! Invest in yourself. I meet with a personal trainer once a month (very affordable, $36), she's a professional that really helps me set and meet goals. Find exercises that are fun (biking, Zumba) and LIFT WEIGHTS!!! It's wild and you may gain at the beginning, but holy cow does it make a difference in the long run. Please don't skimp on calories, our bodies are especially inclined to go into starvation mode and hold onto every last ounce if they feel they're being starved. This site is amazing at calculating what you need, your NET shouldn't drop below 1200, and don't freak out about going over on occassion. And my last piece of advice is to be good to your self. Be proud of the small victories and how good you'll start to feel. Listen, I've been on a horrible plateau for four months. I blame a lot of it on the pcos, but I'm not giving up. If feels good to be good to myself, and eventually I'll get the last forty off.
