Hey,

I have never dieted before or really focused on working out...I am just an active person. Anyways after my accident I gained a lot of weight from just sitting in the hospital and my bed for weeks and weeks and weeks! That being said I have decided to now watch what I eat, how much i eat and work out. However here is the struggle...I have done this for 6 days now...I have only taken in on average 1200 calories a day, have worked out every day (p90x) and have ran everyday on top of p90x. Here is the kicker...I hit the scale today for the first time and I have gained 2lbs :( I started off at 193lbs and now i am up to 195lbs. I am 21 and 5'10. I want to cut down to 160ish by sometime in July was my plan...can someone who knows what they are doing help me out here? I was not expecting miracles in the first 5 days, but I was not expecting to gain weight! HELP!

P90X is an intense workout, and you may need to take in more calories

It is quite possible that you are putting on some muscle with that intense work out. Hang in there, you will start seeing weight loss.

I can only speak from my own experiance and everybody is different. But I noticed that I usually gain a bit every time I start a new workout (Mostly 2-3 lbs). It seems my body needs time to get used to it. After a while I start losing again.
It also depends on what you eat, not only how many calories are in your food. P90X is pretty intense. So from my understanding it would be good you try to get a lot of protein in and eat a little bit more than just 1200 cals.
In the end you will have to experiment a bit with what is working for you. But after 6 days I wouldn't worry. Give it another week and see how it goes. I'm sure you will start losing pretty soon.

With all you are exercising, 1200 calories is not enough. Track your exercise on myfitnesspal and strive to eat at least 50-75% of those calories on top of the 1200 you already consume. You may have to tinker with the percentages a bit to achieve the results you want. Also be very careful with any BLT'S(bites, licks and tastes) you may be consuming on a daily basis; those calories really add up over time. Good luck. You will be successful.

2lbs can easily be a variance in hydration levels - weight the same time of day - first thing in the am is best and use the same scale. Make sure you are drinking enough for your workouts and eating 6 times a day - if you are sticking to 1200 per day total - have a cheat meal once a week to keep your metabolism going

Sorry there is not way you gained 2lb of muscle in a week -

Starvation mode or not (and I'm not going into that discussion again here LOL), I think you have to eat more. Try to eat your exercise cals back for a week or at least a part of them, if you're not hungry at all. 5 meals a day. Everything needs time. It's a slow process.
Spicegeek is right, it's definitely not 2 lbs of muscle gain. But it could also be just water being stored in your muscles from the workouts. It will go away again soon.

Have lost 68 lbs since oct 10, I try to exercise 3 or 4 days week, hour walking 3 MPH on tread mill, dont count the exercise and have lost 68 lbs since Oct 10. Am following low carb diet dialed down the carbs to 35 percent, can deduct dietary fiber as you dont really digest that. Usually go over litte on carbs but have been dieting off and on for 50 years and this is the easiest so far.
