exercise is one of the best relievers of stress. Get out for a walk and clear your head. Drink loads of water to fill you up so you dont turn to food. Occupy your body/mind so you stop thinking about food :) Hope this helps somewhat. I know its easier said than done...

if you are a stress eater, first get rid of anything in your home that might make it easier - toss out cookies, cakes, crackers, cereals, junk foods, etc. when you feel stress really pushing down on you, try other things to help you relax. do you like yoga? try 20 minutes of some calming yoga. light candles. do some knitting. do anything you can to avoid eating just because you feel stressed. take up drinking herbal tea! there are lots of yummy flavours :)

if you even tend to stress eat while you are at school, don't bring your wallet. then you can't buy anything on impulse. same goes for at work. pack some carrot sticks, some apples, a small container of cottage cheese... at least if you down those, you won't be hurting your diet much.

as well, when you stress eat, count all those calories into your diary. if the amounts are huge, maybe that will be a deterrent.
  • I agree about exercise. I was a stress eater...going to proclaim that to be true! Recently, I gained some weight from stress eating. I went to an endocrinologist who gave me a simple breathing exercise to do every hour. Inhale deeply through your nose filling your gut with fresh air. Hold for 10 sec. then exhale slowly squeezing your belly button to your spine. Do that exercise 10 times and then drink a glass of water w/lemon juice or a 1 tbs of vinegar. Seriously, just the breathing a few times a day really help me tons! It does something to release those fats that are hard to get to in the stomach area. Relax. Take a breather, literally. Pace yourself. Chew gum if you have to. You can do this! Food won't solve your problems.

HEY YOU! Yes, you!! No, not you, you! PUT THAT CANDYBAR DOWN!

As a stress eater, can appreciate this problem. However, not having the stuff around makes it harder to enjoy. Don't buy it, ever. Walk away from the inner aisles of the stores and stick to the outsides. Have your friends help you. Send a quick text message to a dietbuddy. Stop and drink a glass of water first. You can do it. Have something crunchy like veggie sticks instead of potato chips. Have nothing around you in your desk or at home that is a temptation.

Heck, I have a frozen chocolate bar in my freezer. The whole bar, is frozen in a gallon size bag of ice. It is there, suspended in frozen water, staring at me when I open the fridge. I figure that if I want it so bad to have to wait for it to either melt, I have to break into it, or I try to melt it, I will be so over the craving that I won't want it anymore. I could never melt the water, because that would melt the chocolate. I couldn't break the ice, because that would mean I was having a Sharon Stone moment and I don't have an ice pick. So it stays there, staring at me. I know that it is there if I need it. But I don't need it that bad...yet.
