Being Canadian I knew nothing of the stone until I moved to the UK. Our scales here read in stones, kilograms, and pounds. In a very odd twist I set it on stones, so I know where I am!

In Canada I weigh in pounds.
At home in the UK I weigh in stone.
At my doctors office he weighs me in kilograms.

I better be damn good at converting!

At work (the NHS) we weigh in kilogrammes, and measure in centimeters and everyone always asks us to convert it into stones and lbs and feet and inches!

we became metric here in the UK in the 70's I only learned in metric at School and yet i still think in imperial! I can visualise a person who is 5ft 5.5 inches, but if you said they were 166cm I would be thinking 'oh...ummm...ok'

I think that the imperial measurement system is so ingrained in our society that it will just always be there, even though a whole generation of adults have never been alive when we last used it officially!
