hi all :) i currently weigh in at 185lb and need to loose around a further 14lbs so my question is do u think because im not a little heavier, that my weight loss will take more time to shed or if i work hard enuf and stick to my calorie intake it will go just as easy as if i was heavier?

It does get slower and slower the less you have to lose :(
I started at 192lb and was losing 1 or 2lb a week, now at 153lb, I am lucky if I hit half a pound a week and I work out more now and eat less. It is just less effort to move your own body weight around and older fat is harder to get off.

It depends on how extreme you're doing everything. It's fairly personal though. For me... it didn't slow down.

As you lose weight and get nearer your goal, you definately need to start working out more. You want to add muscle, which burns more calories. You also need to make sure that you are eating MORE as you work out. When your weight goes down, you body thinks it has to hold onto the weight more, and your metabolism slows. As you record your workouts, make sure you are noting the calories burned and eating a little more (of the healthy stuff!). Good luck!

First off, it's critical that you identify your expectations for weight loss (not necessarily publicly, maybe just to yourself). 0.5-1lb a week is probably a reasonable goal for fat loss with someone who only has 14lbs to lose.

Your first few weeks will always be way higher when it comes to quick weight loss. The closer you are to your ideal, the slower it goes. It comes off more quickly on bigger people, partially because they are further from their goal, but also because they are moving more weight around on a regular basis (it burns more calories to move 250lbs than it does 100lbs, doing the same thing). Also, less doesn't necessarily mean more. If you are looking to lose more than 1lb a week with only 14 lbs to lose, you will have to reduce your calorie consumption by about 3500 cals a week (either by exercising it off or consuming it less). If you are consuming less than 1800 cals net (approximately for a male), you may turn your metabolism down and will start your body storing fat and reducing muscle. Also, once you've met your goal (in about 10 weeks), you'll resume eating habits and your metabolism will be slower (because of decreased muscle mass) and so you will likely gain some of that 14lbs back.

For the first few weeks, focus on proper hydration, not losing muscle mass and eating healthfully. Those three things combined might give you slower weight loss than what you are expecting, but you'll be able to sustain it.

My husband went from 193 to 182 in about a month and a half. His goal weight is 175 and he is still loosing 1-2 pounds a week. He keeps his calories in close check 6 days a week with 1 cheat meal and works out 6 days a week. We are doing p90X together and its 3 days weights, 2 days cardio, 1 day stretching/yoga. He sometimes adds in another cardio session.

You may need to increase your exercise over time to get the same benefit from it. But as long as you are eating less calories than you use each day, you should still lose weight.

It's not about training extreme, it's about training clever.

Incorporate hard strength training and interval based cardio sessions (which do not need to exceed 45mins) and up your protein to 1g per pound of body weight whilst replacing simple carbs with complex carbs and you'll probably do well.

All the people who claim that their weight loss never slowed have probably lost lean mass as well as fat. This you want to avoid at all cost, and ensure that all your weight lost is fat not muscle.

Check in on Stroutman's "Lean people getting Leaner" thread, it's full of fab info for people like yourself.
