Tv's on... food goes in the mouth...

Has anyone ever realized how much they actually eat when they're watching tv or a movie? It's amazing how unknowingly your hand goes into that bag of potato chips and back into your mouth continuously... Suddenly you look in the bag and didn't even realize you had that much!
My mother is a health-food knowledge addict, and she's always said not to eat with the tv on. When you watch tv you're focused on that and so your mind doesn't register that you're full so you keep eating.
This is going to be a hard thing for me to break, snacking while watching tv.

Having my jug of water next to me helps curb the need to snack while watching TV.0

That's another thing my mother always says, "if you think you're hungry then you're probably thirsty, drink some water first & then see if you're still hungry"0

Maybe try measuring out one portion of whatever snack you want and taking just that when you watch Tv. That way you have to actually get up to get some more which you might not do if you're interested in the programme.
Personally I don't watch much tv as there's very little I'm interested in on. But in the past I've had the same problem sitting at my computer.0 -
You know, once I started seeing/feeling results, I no longer want to snack while watching TV. I also don't keep the stuff around or I will be tempted....0

If I DO snack while watching TV (my mom and I really only watch TV on Sunday nights- nerds!) I portion out what I'm going to have and that's IT!
I really love "Popcorn Indiana Kettle Corn"--> 2 cups for 130 calories!!0 -
I will snack while watching tv, but I take a measured portion with me, that way I can't over eat. Plus now when I first sit down in the evening to watch tv, I sit on my exercise bike to add in exercise.0

I was a big snacker/tv watcher...and when I watched The Food Network, it was jut worse~! Now, I keep a bottle of water with me, and if I do want something to munch on, I put some grapes or apple slices in a sandwich baggie and that's my snack...It's funny, it doesn't really matter WHAT we are snacking on...it's all mental, really...just wanting to snack. So, replace it with healthy items and you will still be satisfied by being able to snack, but won't be downing 1200 calories in a sitting!0

I think I'll always eat in front of the TV. I was out of control before, now I think I have a handle on it. Here's how I manage it...I lay a plate out on my counter earlier in the day and on that plate I put the food I allow myself to eat at night. I portion it out and pre-plan.0
