Here is a copy and paste from my food totals for today.

Totals 1,389 135 17 64
Your Daily Goal 1,390 139 31 139
Remaining 1 4 14 75
Calories Carbs Fat Protein

I am 1 cal short of my goal, and I am 4 under my carbs, 14 under my fat, and 75 under my protein. So how can all that be 1 calorie short.

I hope this makes sense.

It does not make any since at all to me either when I look at my diary, I also don't understand how you are supposed to be able to keep things like sodiam and vitamin C down

No it has me as under on both.

It would make sense if I was over on fat, since there are more calories in fat than protein and carbs.

Just depends on what you eat. I am almost always under my calories and carbs, but over on my protein. I rarely eat bread or high carb foods but eat things like chicken and lean ground turkey. Those numbers will vary depending on what you eat every day.

There are errors in some foods that are entered on MFP. It makes it hard for it to be exact. I think that is the only way of really explaining it. People who don't know how to read nutrition labels have entered some of the foods incorrectly.... :-/

You keep your sodium down by eating whole foods, real foods, unprocessed foods. Foods that come from a package generally have more sodium, therefore your sodium will be higher.
For the Vitamin C I think you are supposed to look at it like "Did I get enough Vitamin C" not whether you got too much. It's a good thing to get more than enough Vitamin C :-D

You aren't getting it the totals are not right. There is no way I can only be missing one calorie and be way under on carbs fat and protein.

I am going to break it down here.

    Carbs I had 135g x 4 = 540
    Fat 17g x 9= 153
    Protein 64g x 4= 256
    Total 949

Doesn't make sense how everything is adding up. The site says I have eaten 1389 calories but when I add up everything it shows a lot less. It also says I have 1 calorie remaining but I am missing 4g of carb, 14 grams of fat, and 75g of protein.

    Totals 1,389 135 17 64
    Your Daily Goal 1,390 139 31 139
    Remaining 1 4 14 75
    Calories Carbs Fat Protein

Your separate carb, protein and fat grams don't add up with your calories in your goals.

    134 g carbs x 5 cal per g = 670
    134 g protein x 5 cal per g = 670
    31 g fat x 10 cal per g = 310

Together that equals 1650 calories. Maybe a glitch in the program. Also, it looks like your protein setting is really high - should be closer to 80 or 90 g for that many calories

It is 4 cals per gram in carbs and protein. I have protein intake set where I want it at 40%.

Regardless how can you only be one calorie under your goal and be missing all three carbs fat and protein.

It makes me wonder if they've actually taken into account the amount of calories in carbs, protein and fat when they come up with your daily recommended intake. Hmmmm...I'm going to do a little investigating on my own numbers...I'll be back!

That is a possibility but someone would really have to eff up to make it this far off. I have never paid it any attention before bc I have never been so close to my goal. Maybe I should post this on the technical side.

I think this might be the answer. Not all foods in the database have all the nutritional information (or the correct information) entered. So if you're using a food that has, say, no fat information then your fat totals are going to be wrong but your calorie total will be correct.

If you want to see my diary send a friend request. I have given you all the info needed to see that something is way off.

Yes it has to be where some people didn't enter the correct information I went back and checked a few of my other days and its close within 30 on all of them. That is 100% acceptable.

I used a new meal today that someone had already entered Reganno Stroganoff. I ate it for lunch and dinner, and they did not get the protein or the fat levels right. However, they did get the total calories right.

Well, I checked mine out and all of my numbers come out...almost...I have a spare 2 calories per day.

But...I can only assume that the problem with your numbers is what some have said, that the information in the database is not accurate. I know I've searched for foods in the database and have gotten quite varying amounts of nutrients in a number of entries. These are entries that have the same size portions yet have different calories, fat, etc.

Assuming that the food in your diary had the 100% correct values (which may or may not be true), then it must be that some of the calories you ate were "empty calories". Just because the calorie total matches goal doesn't automatically mean the carbs, fat, and protein will match the goal. For example, if I drink 2 ounces of whiskey, my calories will go up by about 130, but carbs, fat, and protein will go up by 0.

Another possibility is that you picked food out of the database that was entered wrong. For example, the database has lots of entries in it where the calories are filled out, but the carbs, protein, fat, etc are all 0's. This will obviously lead to incorrect totals.

The thing about MFP and the food diary is that it goes strictly by what the food info that you selected... so lets say someone entered something COMPLETELY wrong and actually forgot to enter the fat g.... MFP does NOT figure out the rest of it for you and balance it out, like you have already in your calculations. It is not that high tech unfortunately. It goes strictly by the sum of the number of carbs, fat and protein (as well as calories obviously but each is tracked separately on MFP) from everything you ate (or everything you entered). I ran across an entry once where the person had actually put that there were 43g of fat in the item when in actuality it was 43g calories from fat. That person had completely read the label wrong. OR people enter that fat number in saturated fat ( not knowing there is a HUGE difference haha) while leaving the actual fat section blank. You are correct, that your totals do not add up. I have noticed this before myself and wondered the same thing. But I figured it was member mistakes and that I needed to pay more attention to adding my own recipes or double checking my labels to ensure that they match. OR I just accept it and understand that I can't eat perfectly no matter what and I am pretty damn close! ;)

Excellent job paying such close attention though! Props to you! :-D
