After completing my diary I notice that MFP tells me "If you ate like this everyday you would weigh X in 5 weeks".

For me this number flucuates +/_ 3lbs.

How do they calculate this number and is excercise a factor?

I think they take into account all ur exercise and food intake for the day, along with your goals and what u should be doing. Mine fluctuates too, but it is still fluctuating down so im happy LOL!!!

The ONLY thing it looks at is your calories eaten for that day. It is a simple "dumb tool" that only does the math of your deficit of that day times 35 (5 weeks). 3500 calories = 1 lb, so it takes that number and calculates how many pounds you "should" lose.

However, it is JUST a "fun little tool" and in NO way accurate because our weight fluctuates way more than that and does not follow a "formula" exactly.

If you click the button with zero calories eaten for the day it will say something crazy like you'll weigh 92 lbs. But you wouldn't weigh 92 lbs if you ate zero for 5 weeks, you would weigh more than that and probably be dead.

From a scientific standpoint, this is probably the worst feature of the site as it is only SLIGHTLY accurate ONLY when someone eats right and sticks to their goals.

It does, I've tested it before, it'll change if you finish your diary and then add in a piece of toast and do it again .. or add exercise in, it will change, so it really is dependent upon what you do with your diary
