Small Rant about Work out Videos

Okay, I realize that I am out of shape and uncoordinated to boot. I get that. And I get that a workout show on FitTV channel can't cater only to beginners.

BUT, can someone please tell the camera man that if the instructor is saying "lets work on our arms" the camera should actually be showing arms so I can see the move? That's not the right time to give me a close up of the instructor's knees or practice fun circular shots or any other fancy camera moves. This is not the time to prove you're ready to do movie work, Mr. Camera man. This is the time to give us a clear shot of the move.

And if you're going to introduce a new step don't say it at lighting speed with tons of random jargon from jazzercise, ballet, kick boxing and who knows what thrown in? Just say "kick your left foot" or "bend at the knees." Or quick remind us what the term is. Don't start the warm up with a six move dance step that requires me to watch your feet, hips, and hands all do different things while the camera is bouncing all over the place.

And finally, if you say "now reverse it" you should actually do something different than before. Up down, up down is still up down, up down even if you change it to Down up, down up. Really. <Eye roll>

Didn't you know that workout vids are supposed to be artistic and beautiful. That director just graduated from film school! They know what they're doing!

I love when its something super complicated or at least sounds super complicated and they'll do it in like 2 secs and never really show you the steps like you're suppose to just know what's going on like all the extras in a perfectly choreographed movie dance scene. Then, again the opposite isn't too fun either when someone breaks something down into like 20 steps and makes you feel like a child. I guess it depends on how you learn...I do agree though a lot of the videos are made half-a$$ed.

Agree! That is why I love the at home waling dvds! Leslie Sansone and the Biggest Loser are my favorites. There are only so many moves you can do while walking. I don't trip all over myself and I get a good work out. I recommend trying them.

Classic. I see this all the time especially in Kathy Smith's Aerobox and Bob Harper's Inside Out Cardio DVD. Artsy artsy.

The beauty of working out in the privacy of your own home......don't have to have people stare at you in the gym making a fool of yourself.

I guess as long as your moving and getting your heart rate to where it should be is all that matters.

My favorite is when they tell you to watch the "easier" steps if you are just starting out, then they never show that person again! Grrrrr
