So what is the deal with my husband?

He asked me today if he came for regular walks with me if he would lose weight. I said sure because it would be awesome if he would come with me.
He is not a huge overeater though. He is gone most of the time and when he is home really doesn't eat a whole lot. Yesterday for example he said he didn't eat anything yesterday but a bowl of goulash (chicken & dumpling) because he was out and about.
Some nights he does like to snack but is it that he is just so inconsistant?
Help me help him. I know he won't calorie count because he just isn't into the weighing and entering like I am. We did south beach awhile back and it seemed to work however it envolved me making many different foods my kids wouldn't eat.

So great that he wants to come with you on walks and is thinking about getting healthy!!!
He should probably eat more consistent healthy meals and include more veggies/fruits/water in his day. Other than that, it might be fun for him to get active (soccer, basketball) with you or some of his friends. It's a fun way for guys to be active without feeling like they are exercising0 -
If he's anything like my husband he wont need to calorie count. Just by paying more attention to what he eats he's lost 9lns in the last week. Ugh, MEN!0

My Hubs is a lot like that. He doesn't over eat because he doesn't have time to eat! Lately I have been packing him breakfast and lunch so I know he is eating something while working, and I cook nutritious dinners. I think the UNDEReating is what is getting them. They aren't eating enough and their bodies hang on to what they do eat. I notice when Hubs eats regularly, even if he doesn't exercise, he drops a few lbs. You don't have to do a fad diet like South Beach. All you have to do is be balanced, stress carbs, protein, and fiber for him (so fruits, veggies, meats, beans, and whole grains), and try to live a healthy lifestyle. Your kids will benefit from this as well and will get used to eating healthy foods, if my picky 3 year old came around ANY kids will! Good luck to you both!0

Mine will not either. I know my husband will do good when I fix his meals. He does not eat without me during the day so that is how I can keep up with him. The more I push him the worse he gets. We did do Atkins about 4 years ago and I modified it alot. He lost over 100 pounds and I lost 25. He has kept off most of it but about 20 pounds. I gained all mine back plus some....I knew that would happen. Just do it step by step and he will do good......Good Luck!!0 -
It's so awesome that he wants to go walking with you!!
My husband is much the same though, he barely eats during the day and when/if he does, it's usually snack noodles or something like that (he doesn't really have the facilities at his work to make much other than that; although I offer to make him lunches....) and he has nowhere near enough water.
I am trying to get him to eat breakfast and take a proper lunch to work with him - it's a slow process
I actually asked him yesterday if he'd join me in the weight loss goal and he said "as long as I don't hit 250lbs, I don't really care" =\0 -
I think its awesome that he wants to take part as well, the couple that works out together stays together. My 10 cents for what its worth is that a lot of men tend to get busy and not eat enough, I know I have been guilty of that on more than one occasion, when i am busy I am focused on what I am doing and not what and when I should be eating. Being foreman of a heavy equipment shop means that there are very busy days. So I think that by doing exactly what you said about packing him some lunches and breakfasts that you are doing exactly what any spouse should do which is to support one another. Great post, and you are a gem keep up the good work and I wish you both the best of luck. I have some useful diet tools in my blog that you can read up on to assist him along the path as well as yourself should you feel the need to look them over.0

LOL...I read your other post and for the record was not offended!0 -
You can shop for frozen dinners that are microwavable and have all the ingredients and calorie info on there. Then he can plug in the name of the item into MFP -- or not. Either way, you'll not be cooking more than one item and he knows what he is eating...
Big man meals like lasagna can be found in Smart Choice frozen dinners. Limited calories. No hassle for either of you.
You might also want to show him the guys here on MFP. I've got a "manly man" MFP friend who is a big guy and works out. Having someone like him to talk to would make him feel better -- even though, as a man, he might not say that he needs it.
The fact that he walks with you is awesome. You are inspiring him.0
