The polar FT40 is supposed to have a VO2max calculation. Does this make calories burned calculation more accurate or can I just buy the FT4 or FT7??

one of the MFP members recently recommended the FT4 for basic heart rate and total calories burned. I purchased it last night and used it and it seems to work perfect for those reasons. So if that is what you are looking for I would purchase that one. Best Buy had them for $89.99.0

the VO2 max would make the calculation more accurate, but not by to much and VO2 Max is just one variable in the equation. I was looking at some studies and it appeared that around 70 something % of calories burned could be attributed age, weight, gender and HR. The same study looked at adding VO2 Max to the calculation and it took the calc into the low 80%'s. So it will be more accurate, but not by much as the both calcs assume a linear line for their equation and the slope of the lines are slightly different but any point along those lines are very very close.
The biggest difference with the 4 and the 7 is that the 4 can store 10 workouts whereas the 7 can store 99 I beleive. And with the purchase of another item you can upload the info from the 7 to your computer.0 -
i have the FT40 and i find the VO2 calc to be informative for a tracking progress. i never did the calc on my own to measure the diff. i wanted that feature cause i don't like math...:drinker:0

The equation in bedded in them is the same. FT7 just has more bells and whistles as per my early reply.0 -
Thanks! I judt want to make sure I don't regret spending the extra money to get the better one. I reently purchased a bodymedia fit and don't really like it b/c i realized i really just wanted cals burned from workouts and not all the other cals burned so I am buying a hr monitor after all.
i appreciate all the feedback!0
