Looking for tips and ideas for sprouting at home - best set ups, seeds/beans, results...
I noticed there are kits and seed refills - is it worthwhile or is it better to get supplies on your own? Or is it really just better to buy at the store? TIA!

Just in case anyone happens to search for this here, I'll try and keep this thread updated -

for now, I'm going to gather my own materials instead of getting a kit, but I think I'm going to start with a seed assortment from somewhere online. This site has a simple overview of what to do:

    Ho I LOVE sprouting! I
Since we finally have enough sun in our kitchen's window, last week I started my favorites:
    -mustard seeds (sooooo YUMMY! )
-onions (they are the best in salads and burgers)

...for the first time I'm trying Biosnacky by Vogel: Gourmet mix (Quinoa, radish, lentils) but they are not ready yet. I'll tell you more about it later.

I bought my seeds at a garden center. But the ones from Vogel are from (I think) Whole food market (or a store like this one)....

We have made our own "kit" and ordered our seeds. The website listed above is great. I'm lazy now and just buy sprouts from the store - love them on clean egg sandwiches!

This weekend we're going to gather supplies and seeds (hopefully) - thought about ordering some seeds online but I want to do it NOW!

Maybe in a few days I'll have something to show for it!

I'm doing the easy jar method for some mung beans - soaked them overnight and rinsed them - 2-3 days and they should be ready!

Okay, last one I promise! It was a little annoying getting the hulls out, but they produced well!

Okay, so stupid question. What do you do with sprouts? Like, what did you do with the mung beans? Did you just eat them out of the bowl? Or what?

In the MFP food diary "Mung beans - Mature seeds, sprouted, raw" is correct - I checked the 100g amount against the USDA database listing (http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/)..

    Calories - 30
    Total Fat - 0 g
    Sodium - 6 mg
    Total Carbs - 6 g
    Dietary Fiber - 2 g
    Sugars - 4 g
    Protein - 3 g

I have been sprouting for years. I love them and added them to most meals. The nice thing is that they are packed with goodness because they are eaten whilst still alive whereas most veg has been picked and is already dying or dead and so is losing nutrients. I am only doing cress at the moment as I am low carbing but I am really looking forward to getting back to sprouting properly again. Yum!

Next up, something we grabbed called "Bob's 13 bean mix" - might be interesting.
We also bought some seeds for microgreens..

Bob's 13 Bean Mix didn't do so great but we tried microgreens and they're doing well!

They should be good - the only bad part was all the hulls floating around! What are you using to sprout (jar?)

I don't have a jar so I think I'll try with a soda bottle or a yogurt cup.
    Both ways are shown here:

When I was a kid I used to sprout beans in a glass with cotton puffs, and it worked out just fine.
