Hello everyone. I'm new here. My name is Sarah, and I'm eighteen years old and I weigh 230 pounds. Embarrassing for me...
I've come to this website for help on losing weight.
I need help making a work out schedule for myself. I come from a low income family, and still attend school full time. We live on 266 acres of hill, so it's hard to get a good flat walk or run, and I get tired way too easily.
I recently got a copy of Just Dance 2. Is that good exercise?
The only exercise machinery I have is:
A very old version of this, with a broken counter.

And a smart arms machine.

I do not know how to input either of these things in to the calorie counter because I don't know how many calories they burn or what to label them as.

Please help me formulate a plan. Thanks so much!

Welcome Sarah! You have a beautiful name ;) What I would suggest is that even though you get tired, walk through your land. You will notice in a short time that you will be able to go further and further. I started on the treadmill and it took me 22 minutes to do a mile. I m now at 14 minutes in just three weeks. And a heart rate monitor would be a great way to count calories, but since you say your income is low, I would suggest doing a google search for a calorie counter. You can enter your height weight and age, the time and type of exercise you did, and it will give you a rough estimate of wht you burned. That may help. And Just Dance 2 is a GREAt workout! Welcome and feel free to add me as a friend! Good Luck!

Thanks Sarah! You've got a wonderful name as well. :P
I should start walking. A lot of it is wooded area, so I will try to avoid that as much as possible. Motivation is the key, I suppose.

Hi Sarah. Welcome. I agree with just walking at first. If you have a public library around, they may have exercise videos that you can borrow.

It is fun! Althought I've realized that sweat points are definitely not calories!
Does anyone know the conversion? I think it's probably somewhere around every 10 sweat points is 1 calorie.
  • Hi Sarah! Welcome! I agree with Sarah440...walk your land...I know how you feel about being tired. But she's right...do a little a day and you'll see how quickly you can go further and walk faster. I'm also low income, so I got an ANCIENT stationary bike from a friend and a homemade weight bench. I then bought a balance ball and resistance bands....now I have my own home gym! The key is don't give up! This is a wonderful site full of wonderful people...you'll get plenty of support! Feel free to add me too!

    Hi Sarah,
You will want to remember to do some sort of resistance exercises on top of the cardio. You want to build and tighten the muscles up.
I do cardio everyday, but rotate my muscle workouts through out the week.
I agree with Sarahs440, you need to start out slow on the cardio and add more time every week.
Cardio is your best way to burn the calories.

Hello, welcome aboard!!!... Using the land and hills that you live on will give you a great workout. As many have stated, although you may get tried and exhausted at first, the more you do it, the more your body will soon adjust to it.. Make use of the items you have on hand.. For example, you can do some arm curls using canned foods... ( I know youre probably like WHAT.....really,...... R u serious!!!) Trust me it works.. the more you do it, the sooner you will see results... Also another question what are youre eating habits like..... Taking small steps, now will make great rewards in the end... Add Me, and we can help to keep each other encouraged along this journey....

Thanks so much. You all are so wonderful, it's definitely inspiring.
I think I'll play Just Dance for an hour everyday, and do a little walking to start myself off.

My eating habits have been terrible in the past, but they are getting better. I've cut soda out of my life, and I continue to keep making my food schedule as healthy as possible. I've got a problem though. Because I have school, I always eat something very small for breakfast, and something very large for dinner. I want to find the motivation to switch that up.

Sarah, I just started doing my "own thing" I do sit ups & stretching (great for cardio & calorie burning) every morning & then power walking in the afternoon & it seems to be helping me ALOT, I have went from 20 mins to 38 mins on my walk & we are up to 2+ miles now! Also the stretching & sit ups in the morning has given me more energy and I don't fall asleep at work!!! It's been hard for me to get up earlier & FORCE myself to do it (sometimes in my sleep) but I just turn on my music videos and do it right in my living room floor! Making do with what I do and don't have & making the most of it! Per this site, you just punch in sit ups & how long you did them & it tells you how many calories etc you burned & does everything else for you! Walking in the woods is actually even better because of resistance, just try to keep a steady pace as you are going! Good luck to you & feel free to add me if you like! Shannon
  • Walking is one of the best exercise you can do. It gets the blood pumping through your body and also helps with cardio. It doesn't matter if you tire easily, start with a 5 minute walk at a slow pace and build yourself up a little every other day and do the best you can. Before you know it, you will be jogging your land. I personally do not do CDs or anything like that because I find it boring and repetitive after awhile. Keep the exercising fun and interesting or you will become bored and stop doing it. Good Luck on your journey
