The club I am in (24 hour fitness) is doing zumba classes. I have no rythem at all but it looks like so much fun. Tonight they are having one and I dont know if I should go or not. Can any one tell me anything about zumba? Do you do it if you do how is it?

I live for Zumba. Been doing it for over two years now. It's fun, sexy and a great burn. Everyone thinks they have to be coordinated/that everyone will be watching them. Not true.

I love love love Zumba! There are modified steps you can do until you get the hang of the harder ones. It's a lot of fun and the music is great! I don't have the best coordination and I still look forward to going every week!
  • I do Zumba and I love it! It is so much fun and a great workout at the same time. I would highly recommend trying it, at least once. What do you have to lose? some lb's :)

I have Zumba at home for the Wii and I love it! I feel like no matter your rhythm there's a spot for you. If I could afford to do it in a gym I would, I would imagine the intesity and fun level will be amazing! Let me know how it goes!

Give it a try!! I started going once a week a couple months ago and I LOVE it!! Don't worry if you can't keep up or don't have rythym...just keep moving! It's a great workout! And remember...nobody is watching you...they all have their eyes on the instructor. Good luck!
  • I love Zumba! You'll have so much fun and you don't need to have rhythm to get a good workout!!

You HAVE to try Zumba. I tried it once and am an addict! I too am not coordinated, I cannot dance, but it is truly soooo much fun. I'm on the front row dancing like a crazy person. Love every second of it and it's a great way to burn calories.

Zumba is really fun! It is very fast paced and intense, yet it doesn't even feel like exercise! You don't have to be a good dancer to do it. I highly recommend it! Has anyone found that doing Zumba is helping them lose weight?

Zumba is freaking AWESOME!!!!! Do it girl! I've seen some women who aren't necessarily "dancers" in the class. You can always do the moderation on the moves if you need to. That's what I sometimes do. It's just so much fun with all the booty shaking and sexy latin dance moves. I burn close to 700 calories in that class.

I've been doing zumba for about 2 months, and I absolutely love it!!! It is a full body workout and a great burn. You do not have to be physically fit or have rhythm. I am very overweight, have poor circulation bad knees and not a lot of rhythm, but I have sooooo much fun with this class. I love it so much that I go all over my city to attend classes and I bought zumba for my Wii game system. Try it, you'll like it!! It really is loads of fun!!!

Definitely gooooo!!!!!!! It's soooo much fun, and you don't even have to be coordinated! As long as you keep moving, you're going to have a great burn! Take some friends along, and have a good laugh, too!! I sometimes find myself cracking up (at myself, or for no reason at all) during my class. Looove it!

I tried my first class last week and somehow managed to get into the most outrageous one at the gym (according to the other girls there.) Other than liking to dance a little when I've been out drinking, thats the extent of my dance experience. I really enjoyed it. Now granted, I couldn't keep up with the instructor or the other girls that have been doing it awhile and it's going to take a few weeks to really starting getting the dance patterns down, but it was fun! My best friend went with and she quit after 2 minutes becasue she was overwhelmed and felt stupid.. I too felt a little silly but the truth is all of those other girls were just trying to keep up too and weren't paying any attention to me whatsoever. Every so often I actually found myself getting into the groove and having fun rather than just trying to keep up so I fully expect a few more sessions and it will be all fun! It was a GREAT workout - the most sweat I've had so far! An hour logged on MFP under high impact aerobics was 749 calories burned for me. Awesome! I say give it a shot - it can't hurt!

Hey girl! You should TOTALLY try Zumba! It is so much fun so I never realize when the hour is up and then when I look to see how many calories I have burned (I use a bodybugg) I am always crazy surprised at the awesome workout I got. I also am smiling the whole time. Its good for body AND soul lol, Just dont give up after the first class because once you go a few times you will get familiar with the steps and it will be easier. I promise not one lady in there was awesome the first day. Most people who go to the class have at least gone a few times. Dont be hard on yourself or feel stupid. You will love it if ya stick to it. :D Happy Dancing!

Of course you should try an exercise class that looks like fun. Why wouldn’t we want to have fun while working out? I try to pop into a zumba class once a week, because I find it a great release and shake up from my normal routine. It’s like popping into a club for an hour and shaking it on the dance floor. Trust me that people are too busy concentrating on their own workout to bother worrying about what anyone else is doing. Go. Try it. You may fall in love. If not, you’ll still get a good workout in.

I am just starting to do Zumba. I know that dance is probably the most motivating exercise for me. I am at the stage that I can't do everything perfectly or quickly but most of these classes stress to do what you can and the others everyone is just concentrating on doing it themselves. Plus it is so good for us to challenge our coordination. It is good for our minds to do new "moves" as well as our bodies. Go for it and have some fun.

GO!!! It is FUN! You will not feel like you are working out! If you get frustrated by the movements, just do your own thing. I'm a Certified Zumba Instructor and when I go to other classes you can find me in the back--doin' my own thing! I love to dance and the music is great!

I would definitely give it a try! I am a huge klutz and I doubt you're worse than me! The first time I tried it, I tripped over my own feet and fell down. The second time, I bumped into people on both sides of me. The third time...I neither fell down nor bumped into anyone. Then it started being FUN :)

It also got easier when I started learning the music and understood that all the steps and moves were for 4 or 8 beats...helps me keep up with the instructor a bit better now.

Let us know what you think after you try it.

Well, I just wandered over to this topic because I've been considering hitting a Zumba class at my gym, and was curious what the responses would be. You've all talked me into giving it a go, and I wasn't even the one who started the thread, lol.

I say you should definitely do it. Its a mix of different dances. You dont need any rhythm to enjoy it and burn lots of calories. Once you get the hang of it youll be dancing like its nobodys business. Ive done zumba in a class setting and home. Its a really fun way to exercise. HAVE FUN!!!!
  • Zumba is fun, you should try it.

IMHO many of the moves are VERY ridiculous and stupid that do not much for exercising, but as mentioned by most users here, if you go with friends, or to learn some dancing moves it will be fun.

I would never let any of my students see me doing that though... and some of the songs are a little bit (or VERY) silly... :P
Don't take me wrong, I still do it twice a week to get some variety in my workouts, and to challenge my coordination.
  • Okay yall have convinced me to go try Zumba, I was wondering myself how it was. There are gyms all over were I live with signs for Zumba. I have a Wii so I think I will go and pick the game up first to get myself comfortable with it. Thanks ladies...
