I am currently doing 30 day shred on level 2, I weigh about 190 and MFP says I am burning 425 calories during the 25 minute workout. This seems like a lot, has anyone compared the burn with an HRM?

I am also doing vinyasa yoga and sweating like crazy when I do it. My only option was "stretching, hatha yoga" and the burn is only about 200 for a 30 minute session. Any advice or input on this one?

  • I am 150 and 5'6" and i burned about 400 doing level one and then most of level 2 yesterday. So id say its fairly accurate. I use a HRM cuz i was tired of never knowin my exact cals burned. I def recommend one! :)

Personally I will never go by the calories burned on the site. Everyone burns calories differently depending on their age, weight and sex. The best advice would to be to get a HRM. It would give you a more accurate count for what calories you burn.

I put it under cardio interval. I lost the strap to my HRM (heart rate monitor), so I'm trying to find another one.

try logging it under circuit training.

I wore a polar HRM for all of the 30 day shred and my workouts each day averaged 200 - 230 for the 25 mins. My heart rate was quite high for the cardio work, but then dropped quite low during the Abs section. My weight at the time was around 140lb.

My HRM said I burned around 400 calories but that seemed high to me to I cut it in half. I'd rather under estimate than over estimate.

Hmmm - I'm in pretty decent shape. I'm 5ft 6, and weigh 178lbs and Level 3 I burn about 148 cals. I think 400 is really high. I burn that running hills... I also wore my HRM to Moksha Yoga (hot yoga, power flow class) and burn just over 200.

My suggestion would be to get a HRM with a strap and go with that. Everyone is going to be different, and the HRM that you wear on your wrist really isn't that accurate.

People who are 50, 75, or more pounds overweight are going to burn way more doing any exercise than someone closer to optimal weight. And the system does take that into account when you enter your exercise and time.
