Yes. I mean you can exhaust yourself, overwork your body and make yourself sick.0

Yes, you can absolutely over train. Also extreme levels of exercise are associated with anorexia. It is as much a symptom as under-eating.0

I've heard no more than 60 min at a time. Up to twice a day, for short periods of time (not months) for helping to break a plateau. Anything over that your body's saying "nuh huh, no way, not happening".
I used to do 80 minutes once a day, and I didn't loose anything, but if i stick with 45-60 minutes, I'll drop up to 1lb a week.
I have no sites that back me up though. I can't remember where I read this =(

yes i believe you can over train.for myself i really have to watch how many calories i burn so i can keep up with my calorie intake.Plus I get really unmotivated and burned out if i do to much.0

Yes, if you don't give your body the nutrition it needs to recover from your workouts, as well as adequate rest, you can do more harm than good.0
-
Yes it is called over training and if you do your body likes to use you muscle for energy. Look over training on google or bodybuilder.com0

My opinion, you can exercise too often. Weightlifting, for example, would require recovery times based on genetics, which muscle groups were used, and intensity. Calve muscle recover very fast, but back muscles slowly. A 100# bench press wouldn't require as much recover as a 300# bench.
As far as cardio only type things, as long as your sleep patterns aren't effected and you maintain diet I think you could do as much as you wanted.
Crashing, burn outs, and potato are symptoms of excessive exercise.0 -
YES you can! your body need to rest to repair itself.0

Yes, back when I was "over-training" during track season, I thought I would be running my best times due to all the working out and training and the opposite happened. I actually ran slower than the year before. Over-training can also lead to muscle deterioration, if not fueled properly.0 -
absolutely...makes me look lazy...setting the bar that high makes it easier too limbo though0

I think you have to find a happy medium … I started my journey two weeks before Christmas. I thought all I would have to do was go to the gym and the weight would just fall off. Well after two months of going to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and working out for 1 ½ to 2 hours a night I weighted 3 pounds more then when I started.
Then my loving wife (MFP – CindySharp1) told me to that I was over doing the gym and eating way to many calories. I did not believe her so we downloaded MFP to my Droid and plugged in the numbers …. Holy Crap … over 3,000 calories and the day was not over. That is when things changed … I know go to the gym no more than three days a week and only work out for 1 hour or less. I am averaging losing 3 lbs a week and eating under 2100 calories.
My wife is so impressed with the results she started MFP and meets me at the gym when I get off work. I can’t wait to see her results this weekend on her first weigh in!
Look her up and help keep us encouraged.0 -

I am doing about 60 mins cardio and 15-20 mins strength during the day. In the evening I try to do a 60 min walk, on tuesdays i train for an hour with my personal trainer (circuit training boxing, cardio, strength etc) and here recently on the other evenings i do jillian michaels 30 day shred...
This week I was exhausted! SO i was wondering was i wearing my body out!0 -

Are you using heavy weights with Jillian Michaels? I dont use the 1-3 pound weights, I use more of the 5- 10 pound weights and I am especially worn out after her routine.. I think with your current routine you are doing too much.0 -

I'd say you were wearing yourself out! My trainer told me to stick to 10-15 min cardio on days you're doing weights, to warm up, and then another 10-15 cooldown. if you're doing cardio in the evening to, maybe try 30 min cardio during the day, then another 30 at night? Leave tuesday for your PT, since they're working you hard.
Personally I do 1/2 hour tae bo in the morning, then walk to and from work (44 min total). I'll alternate my tae bo with a Women's Health toning video (i laughed when my friend brought it over... HOLY COW I still hurt and I did that Monday!). "The Last 10lbs" shows people working out 3 hours a day and such.... but that's with a trainer and a nutritionist, and it's super intense.
It does depend on how much you have to loose, what your stats are, and your diet is major important to. I'm a horrible one to talk about diet, so I'm not touching on that one. But if you jump right into an intense workout routine, you're gonna do more damage than good!
