Does your body react differently now?

I have always been a bit of a carb addict, but since I started exercising, I know cannot stomach starchy food at all. Even the tiniest bit of potato or white bread or pasta has my stomach spasming and I think I am going to throw up for the next hour. I am fine with wholemeal bread, and rice. People have suggested I should get tested for coeliac, but I think I would have more symptoms, and it's only really come on recently. Is it just my body telling me not to eat those things?

I do believe the body is smart and it will tell you what it needs if you are willing to listen. With that said, I think you should go to the doctor just to rule any other serious issues out. Better to be safe then sorry!!

Physically, I have not had any change to the kinds of food I can tolerate. But, most of the time my relationship with food is different now than before. I think more about what will feel physically good to eat. Whereas in the past I only thought about what felt good in an emotional or titillating way to eat. But, throw a cheeseburger, fries, or pepperoni pizza in this gullet and I can still easily gobble it down without physical problems. My body doesn’t get the same sustaining energy from these foods, though. And definitely can feel the difference (example: last night’s “dinner”).

My symptoms started about 1.5 years ago.. & I joined MFP about 6 weeks ago.. so I did not see a correlation.

I have issues eating processed foods as well.... so anything with white flour - breads, pasta, bakery items, some wheat that is processed more than others & gluten causes me that queasy feelig in the stomach you described.

Firstly, I would recommend you get an allergy test done... and I would advise a gluten & celiac disease test done as well (I am planning to get it done within next two weeks). Just the knowing.. helps diagnose the problem & you can do something to solve it.

I do listen to my body.. as it give me cues before the Dr does. I have now replaced pasta etc with whole wheat pasta, eat baked red potatoes (they are yum if you wash & oil & bake em). And have been doing more clean eating than ever before. Also reading the book by Tosca Reno " The eat-clean diet".. she talks about making choices where you eat more veggies, fruit, complex carbs & ultimately your immune system will become stronger & i am hoping to reverse these symptoms in the long run.

I hope this helps... there are now so many options available in the market.. that once you figure out what does not work for you.. you will have a long list of things to substitute it with.

Hope this helps...let me know if i can be of any more help:-)

I don't like as many sweet and salty things as I used to. I can't even have a Fuze drink without watering it down, it is WAY too sweet as it is. And bacon is too much salt for me now when I use to love it. And creamy things upset my stomach now if I eat/drink too much. Mainly things like fancy coffee (caribou or starbucks) or cream based soups. I used to be able to finish off a medium white chocolate mocha no problem. I got a small last weekend and had maybe a 1/4 of it and just felt sick. And greasy food. Used to love fast food french fries, not anymore. To me it's a good thing though. It's usually the "bad" foods I can't stomach anymore

Thanks. My symptoms actually started about 2 years ago, but I have ignored them on and off. It's only since I started getting fitter and listening to my body more in the past 6 months that I have begun to really notice a problem. To start with I thought I was just tired from having small children, then I thought for a while I may have post viral fatigue, as I had flu symptoms for about 5 months, but these days it's very apparent it's from processed wheat/starchy food.
