Is this diet reasonable?

I lost 60 lbs in the past on Weight Watchers and I kept the weight off but I have no idea how many calories I was eating. Now, I'm trying to shed that last 30 lbs but I'm a little concerned because the way I set it up I only get 1200 calories (more when I workout) and walk 3 times a week for 30 min's each workout.
My question is, is my body going into starvation mode because the calorie count is so low? Also, because the calorie count is so low, once I lose the weight, am I going to be able to keep it off like I did when I was on WW? My husband said to just take a chance but 1200 calories really seems low and I do not want to diet forever to keep the 30 lb's off.
Has anyone else met their goal and kept the weight off with a plan similar to mine?

If WW worked before, do it again. At least that way you can get to the "lifetime" and receive free weigh-ins for the rest of your life!0

I wouldnt advise going back to WW. WW is a support program not an active lifestyle change.
I'm eating 1200 cals a day, losing weight and not feeling hungry at all! You're more than welcome to look at my food diaries for ideas!0 -
WW was roughly 70 calories / point. some stuff higher because of high fat, some stuff lower (eg veges), but with rounding it all balanced out for the main part unless you were eating some real bad food alllll the time.
From memory the minimum points they recommend you ate was 18, so approx 1260 calories. If you can remember how many points you were on, you should be able to work out a good approximation of a caloric equivalent.
i don't know their new system though, it doesn't look as simple as the old one was.0 -
If it bothers you, take your weightloss down to 1lb a week instead of two. Mine's set to half a pound, and I'm on 1580 cals.0

I agree, If WW worked before you might want to try it. Although they have now switched their point system so it might make it harder. I have mine set for 1200 as well and I exercise everyday so I get more calories for those. Right now I work out twice a day for roughly 30 minutes each and I average 1500-1600 calories a day even though I can eat more and be with in my calorie range.
I would try it and see how you do. Just like WW fruit and veggies are low in calories just like they were low in points. Remember what you learned about filling foods and incorporate into your day. Also remember that water is zero calories and you can drink your calories or your can eat them it is your choice.
WW is a great tool for some to learn how much their portions are and what they are eating. MFP can help you learn what is in your food - carbs, fat, protein, sodium, fiber. You can incorporate what you have learned from WW and apply some of it here.
Keep us posted on what you decide to do!0 -
I think what we are all learning is that we really have to make a lifestyle change to keep off the weight permanently. That means exercising regularly and only having one Oreo instead of half the bag (my weakness LOL). And yes it is reasonable for most people, the plus is that the more you exercise the more calories you get to take in, and they say once you do something every day for three weeks it becomes a habit. Why not make your habit walking every day? Then not only do you get more calories back, but you're really getting your heart working and helping yourself to live longer!! Maybe eventually you could work up to running a little bit too, that's even more calories (and maybe an extra Oreo). WW does a lot of good for a lot of people, but I think MFP is a great way to ease into making healthy eating a lifestyle change and not a "quick fix" diet. Congrats and good luck!! You can do it!!0

Hi my name is Danyelle, I am almost 44 yrs old with 3 children and I Was wondering whether or not to join WW because the gym I go to is offering it. My goal is to lose 15 lbs. I now weigh 140 and put 15 pounds on within the last year. I have been doing MFP and can not believe how many calories and carbs I used to eat and never think twice about it. My problem is I don't eat the right food, I workout 3x a week and do zumba 2x a week and the scale has not moved and clothes are actually getting tighter. I am so disgusted so I am thinking about giving WW a try. It is a a 8 week program and do you think 15 lbs can be lost in that time and will it stay off. What are your feeling with WW as opposed to this website. Thanks, Danyelle0

WW will not help you make better food choices - you can still choose to eat junk, but it will cost you more points than fruits/veggies/lean proteins and in the end you'll probably be hungry and not healthy.
Points under the old and new system still equate out to calories.0 -
thanks Cmisty....I am so confused on what to do, either keep doing what I am doing or doing WW and maybe bc I get weighed in it will help me.0
