Already below daily cals, should I skip workout?

I ate good all day, felt satisfied and wasn't hungry yet still below my daily calories by about 400. So I went to the gym for my workout and ending up burning about 200-something calories, which set my daily calories back to 700-something. I had dinner and a snack but still didn't earn back all the calories, and now I'm going to bed having 400 remaining. I'm about to go to bed because I have to work at 3am, and while at work I was going to have a snack that is 200 cals. I don't want to be super below my daily cals because I've read on here of people who hit plateaus because they didn't eat enough. However I don't want to eat if I'm not hungry. If I'm already 200ish calories below my daily calories, should I skip a workout or workout anyways and try to eat back more healthy calories?

I say workout anyway. You don't need to eat when you aren't hungry, but working out really helps with weight loss--it is probably the most import factor. Just make sure you don't go into starvation mode, and continue the good work!

You don't make a habit of netting way below your goal, do you? Because one day here or there shouldn't matter much. I'd hate to see you skip your workouts though. It's all about nutrition AND exercise, IMHO.

As long you're on track with your routine on most other days, just let today be as it is. Don't try to compensate for it. Tomorrow just do your regular routine as if today had been perfect.

Being under on your calories ONE day isnt going to send you into starvation mode! Take a day off if you need to....but if you feel the need to get that exercise in by all means burn it up!

To add what these guys said...Better to reinforce the habit of working out than not.

It's not just one day... its usually every day! I started eating super healthy which happens to leave me full but doesn't give a lot of calories. I don't want to keep going to bed with 400 remaining calories I can use... I feel like thats not healthy :frown:

I normally am within a few hundred calories some days I'm right on but when I workout I never make up calories burned I'm usually way under those days but I eat when I'm hungry and thats that and so far its done me pretty good I feel perfectly fine and I've lost 31lbs. I say if your not hungry then don't worry about it, just listen to your body.

I kind of had this dilemma today too, although I was around my calorie goal for the day but just didn't work out at all. I feel guilty but just didn't feel like working out after coming home at 9. I should have though because I'm going out of town for weekend and probably won't get any in until Mon or Tue :ohwell:

Especially since the weekend probably won't be too good, haa
  • On most days I am about 200-300 under my goal and that is with working out and burning about that amount. I don't sweat ti too much. But then again I haven't lost much so maybe I am not a good advicor lol

I almost never use the calories I gain because of exercise.
