I signed up to run the Chicago Marathon in October this year. Just wanted to see if anyone else was planning on running it. I can use all the support and encouragement while training and thought it would be nice to have other people to talk to and encourage a long the way!

I ran detroit half last year but really wanted to do Chicago. I am not running it (I have a baby due August 5th, so that would be tough ) but wanted to say that I watched my sister do Chicago a couple of times.... the race is AMAZING! So many people cheering, so much entertainment... and very flat good luck!0

I ran Boston last year, planning on running it in 2012 again! I heard Chicago was a good run and pretty flat!
You'll love it! Best tip I ever got - put baby shampoo on your feet inside your socks and shoes, it will help you avoid blisters!!! 26.2 miles, 4:25 and not a single blister!!!!! Oh and MAKE SURE you use body glide on any body part that rubs against anything...shirt seam, nipples, thighs, arm pits! Good Luck!!!! Keep us posted!0 -

I put duct tape over my heels... the smooth surface of the duct tape reduces friction from the shoe.
Sweating will loosen up the duct tape over time so when you are finished, it just peels right off glue and all.
NO BLISTERs and the best part is its a fraction of the cost of Second Skin ($2 at a hardware store will get you thousands of applications!)0 -
Come to think of it... I should look into running Chicago.
There is never anything substantial in Winnipeg beyond September for running and Chicago is only a single short plane trip away.
Hmmm

oooh! Thanks for all these fun tips so far! I ran Disney 2010 as my first marathon and it was horrible! It was the year is snowed in Orlando and windchill was 14 degrees that morning. The water at the water stations was frozen and when the fast people ahead of me had thrown their water cups down, the water froze and there was black ice at all the water stations! I was really disappointed with my time and want a do-over and have heard amazing things about Chicago. I had a baby 3 months ago so I feel like I am starting completely over with training. I have some more baby weight to lose before I get serious with my training starting in June. I signed up for a 10k tomorrow - should be interesting because I haven't run much more than 3 miles so far - yikes! But I love the race adrenaline and am excited to be back to running.
Thanks for the encouragement - I look forward to hearing more trips and tricks a long the way!
Janer - AWESOME time - congrats!!
Jeff - My husband will be thrilled to find another use for duct tape
AnneElise - congrats on baby! I just had my 3rd in december and it is amazing!0 -
