constipation

So I've had constipation problems my whole life. I hadn't gone for awhile and I wanted to weigh myself, so I took a laxative last night and went to the bathroom this morning. I weighed myself after and it says I've dropped 3lbs. I've been tracking my calories on MFP for almost 4 weeks now. Do you think this reading was accurate? I tend to either not lose weight or gain weight when I don't go to the bathroom for awhile so I'm hoping this is accurate.

Funny story that happened to my sister recently...she drank this tea called Slimming Tea and lost 15 lbs in one day because she was in the bathroom all night. Needless to say, once she ate again she gained it all back. So once you eat you may gain some of that back if it was a huge amount that you excreted. Add prunes or activia to your diet and see if that helps.0

I suffer from the same problem...and have also found the same thing. I think it all balances out as you can eaily store a few pounds in there! Did you know when they did Elvis' autopsy he has over a stone in there?
I find I need something really strong to help me and a senna tablet each night helps me, plus a good diet, exercise and lots of water. Oh and a strong cup of coffee in the mornings!!

Yes, I do the same thing. It's like if you are drinking a lot of water, but not going to the bathroom, you are gonna weigh more.. when you do go to the bathroom, you are gonna weigh what you really are. One thing that has been working good for me is eating A LOT of fruits. It helps.. Lots of watermelon and grapes work best for me. Also drinking water with lemon juice helps too. Also making sure you are eating lots of veggies, drinking water, and getting enough fiber will help. It is better for your body if you can do it naturally without laxatives. I learned that the hard way. Taking laxatives too often can make it worse.0

I have the same problem .I weigh myself daily and keep track of it in my planner. I noticed that if I haven't gone for a while that I'll be heavier on my fluxtuating weight and as soon as I go...I'm back down to my true weight. This all helps me keep track of my fluctuations and it is also teaching me how my body works. I'm working on my fiber and what really helps me go. I noticed coffee usually does the trick but I usually also take fiber pills.

I eat an insane amount of fiber everyday, and drink 12 cups of water a day. I've suffered from this all my life, so I've literally tried EVERYTHING. All the suggestions you guys gave, I've tried it! But thanks so much for the tips! I've always had a really hard time losing weight, so I got really excited when I looked at the scale this morning. Since tracking my calories, I realized I was eating well below 1000 calories a day and wondering why I was putting on weight! I hope I actually did lose those 3 lbs, because that would make me extremely happy.0

Citrucel always works for me. 2 in the AM, 2 in the PM until you feel better. Laxatives will just make matters worse because they relax the intestinal smooth muscle (making it harder next time!). Stool softeners help too. A few summers ago I didnt go for close to a month, and my GI doctor prescribed 2 Citrucel and 2 stool softeners 2x daily. Did the trick!0

Omg you sound like me! I've gone a month without going once. I rarely use laxatives though. I only use them if I'm in pain from not going to the bathroom for awhile. I don't think I've tried Citrucel though... that's over the counter?0
