The conventional wisdom is that you need to burn 3500 calories in order to lose a pound of body fat. Be sure not to short-change yourself on your daily intake of calories as calculated by MFP or you will lose muscle, MFP has already done the math for you.
From what I understand (I am not a doctor), the calories burned by additional muscle mass is really negligible in the scope of things and you should not plan your exercise routine around the fact that muscle burns more calories than fat.0
