Chronic WW drop out here!

Hi all!
The title says it all. I have started and stopped WW about 100 times in my life and I am not exaggerating! I am two weeks away from my 39th Birthday and it is time for me to take care of myself and my health!
I have a 10 year old that is already very body conscious so we talk about being healthy more than "skinnny".
I had an extremely tough summer with the sudden loss of my Mom after a short bout of cancer and after she died I was determined not to let my typical emotional eating take over. I made it through the holidays and maintained my weight. Now it is time to get back on track!
I decided to toss WW to the side and do MFP. So far I am liking the site. Of course, being thw WW expert that I am I am able to incorporate some of the things I have learned from them and do this on my own.
On Sunday April 10th my hubby and I are running the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago. It is a 8K....5 miles. I have to complete it in 1:15 for my finish to be official. That is a 15 minute mile! I am confident that I can do it. I may just make it but I will do it!! I figure it will be a great way to start the first day of my 40th year as I will turn 39 the day before
I am looking forward to having a support system here and to be supportive if I can! By the way...I am not weighing myself weekly. I have found that the stupid scale plays head games with me. As long as I am eating healthy and exercising, I am going to let my clothing be the gage for now.
I am having horrible carb cravings as I am a carboholic and have a bad sweet tooth! I have increased my protein and my veggies! I look forward to the day where I do not have visions of Twix bars and Milk Duds dancing around my living room!!

Welcome to MFP! Lots of helpful people here... Some people are runners like me who battle the bulge.
Feel free to call on me for support, advice or training knowledge!
And let me just say that 5 Miles ain't bad at all! You can do it!0 -
Welcome. If you want friends, add me. I can use all of the support I can get too. I haven't ever done weight watchers, but I am loving MFP so far. Good luck in your race. I have a race in 2 weeks. Having a fitness goal has motivated me to workout more than having a weight loss goal. Good luck!!0

I'm a WW drop out too, but MFP is helping me lose so far and I feel a lot better about it - less pressure and guilt. The community here is great. Welcome!0

I've done WW too... even was a lifetime member back in the day, but life got away from me and I totally slacked and put back on all the weight and more! More than once! Ugh!!!! I'm nearly the same age as you (I'll be 39 on April 15) and started running last spring. I'm training for my first 10k and can't wait!!!!
Good luck, I know you'll do well. Add me if you like, I'm always on here and would love to support each other through this!
Oh, and really sorry about your Mom.. I lost my Dad suddenly back in '93... it's not easy, but you do go on.0 -
that was me.....but now I found a plan that works better and will never need WW again.0

Welcome! Feel free to add me if you need some support. I too have done WW forever...off and on for the last 20 yrs. I joined this site 3 weeks ago and I think it's much better. Easier to log your food and keep track of everything (calories, fat, sodium, carbs, etc). I also find that I get more support here than I ever did at a WW meeting. Good luck!0

Welcome to MFP! I'm a WW and Jenny Craig dropout and never made it to maintenance on either program due to giving up when I hit a plateau and feeling like the support just wasn't there for me. I'm motivated and taking it slowly now and making it a lifestyle change not a diet. I'm now making exercise a priority 5-6 times per week and am addicted to this site, so many wonderful people. I know I can do this with all the encouraging friends I've acquired on MFP. Feel free to friend me. Our stories are similar. So sorry about your Mom...I will be losing mine soon as she is experiencing the final weeks/months of a 12 year journey to very late stage dementia and we are in a waiting pattern...Very sad and difficult. I'm an emotional eater so focusing on becoming healthy and making changes for myself also distract me during this time when I would normally comfort myself with food. Good luck on your 5K! I would like to do that but my knees and joints give me problems every day. Maybe when I lose more pounds the knee/joint pain will diminish and I can contemplate a 5K.
