I used to drink soda all the time before I started to get serious about my health. Now I only drink it very occasionally and as a treat. But when I drink it, my stomach burns like crazy!! I never had this problem before. Anyone else have the same problem?? I guess I should just give it up for good, but I like it as a treat!

I have never been a big fan of soda, but maybe instead of soda, you could mix club soda with juice and make that your treat? It might be a bit less harsh on your system.

You might want to have an Upper GI done. The stomach itself has hydrochloric acid in it so the acid in soda shouldn't burn your stomach. But, if you have an ulcer above the cardiac sphincter (the lower esophageal opening into the stomach that is suppose to close up and not allow the HCl from the stomach back up into the esophagus.) then the acid from the soda could be burning the ulcer. This is usually the pain that people feel from acid reflux. But if you only have it when you drink something acidic, the sphincter is probably doing its just but the acid coming from the top is aggravating the ulcer.

I have never experienced this. Does anything else burn your stomach? I love diet soda. (I know--bad for me) Maybe if it burned my stomach, I could give it up.
