The best way to lose weight - Love Yourself

This morning while lying in bed, I had a epiphany. I realized that the best way to lose weight is not knowledge about nutrition or the “right” food to eat, it’s not willpower, or motivation, it’s not the right diet or combination of foods. It is loving yourself. It is about knowing and believing that you deserve to weigh your goal weight! For some reason, this morning, it all made sense to me even though I had heard this type of idea before. If you see exercise as punishment because you “need to lose weight” or you “ate too much yesterday”, you will NEVER lose weight. If you punish yourself by restricting your diet and not allowing yourself to have food that you are hungry for, you will NEVER lose weight. Ok, well, maybe you will lose weight in the short term, but it won’t stick. And what is the point of that?

Did you ever notice how thin people like or even love themselves? They seem to have a great deal of self confidence. I always used to think this was because they were thin and attractive, I’ll bet you thought this too. Guess what?? We were wrong. Those thin beautiful people are thin and beautiful because they like themselves. They believe they are worthy of being thin and beautiful!! I have been thinking about it all wrong. I’ll say it again, they believe they are thin and beautiful and so they are.

I think the reason why I am STILL holding onto 15 extra pounds is because I didn’t believe it was possible to ever achieve my goal weight. It’s a little embarrassing, but I just assumed that because my mom gained 5 pounds with each child that she was never able to lose, I was stuck with an extra 15 pounds too. I know that the body follows the mind (read previous blogs for more info. on the power of intention), so of course, my body has been holding onto 15 pounds because my mind told it to! DUH!

My new mission, my new intention, is to begin to change the way I think about my weight and what I eat. I also want to work on my self esteem and begin to love myself- I have a long way to go because it was hard for me to just type the words-love myself. What will people think! They will think I am obnoxious, selfish, high on myself, uppity! Yup, those are the thoughts that are whizzing around my brain right now. Well, people are going to think what they are going to think and it’s none of my business! My business is taking care of myself. I take care of all other areas of my life including kids, spouse, etc, by taking care of myself.

If you would like to join me and begin to love yourself here are some affirmations to get you started. Let me know how it goes, try saying them while looking in the mirror for a truly interesting experience!

I, ______, deserve to weigh ________ pounds.
I, ______, deserve to nourish my body with healthy foods that support my perfect weight.
I love myself.
I have achieved my perfect weight easily.

Feel free to create your own, and remember, affirmations must be said in the positive and as if they are true. You don’t want to say for instance, “I am no longer fat.” Your mind will only “hear” fat and that is what you will attract. On the other hand, if you say, ” I am thin and attractive,” thin and attractive is what you will attract. Affirmations feel weird and untrue because they are not true yet. If they were true, you wouldn’t need to say the affirmation. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

not always true..I am thin and I dont love myself...that is part of my problem. But it is true we all need to love ourselves. We might not get to the weight we want to be, but if we are eating healthy and exercising than that is where your body wants to be. But by doing those things is loving yourself enough to take care of yourself..so the number on the scale doent have anything to do with it. Even at 100 lbs I dont love myself..I think I will but once I get there things are not any different. Self affermation must help because I am told to tell myself things even if I dont believe them..someday it might click! Good luck

I was thinking the same thing, it is a great message, this post, that can apply to everyone, not just the overweight. I think loving ourselves goes much deeper than weight, but learning to love ourselves, can definitely help with being successful and sustaining weight loss.
