Organic Eaters VS Diet foods

A few years ago my family decided to go "organic" meaning that we would try to not eat anything with artificial ingredients. We raise our own beef, hogs and chickens. I make my own bread and grow our own vegetables and have an orchard. We use a local dairy and eat whole milk and yogurt and cheese. I dont eat badly just eat way to much, well now that I am trying to lose weight it is difficult to come up with tasty foods that are not high calorie or loaded with artificial stuff. I have bent my rules and bought "diet bread" but that is all. Any ideas or suggestions of organic "diet foods"???

why not just watch your portions and increase your exercise and still eat organic. Fruits and veggies are low in calories. I'm a vegetarian and i eat clean 90% of the time...check out my diary for ideas and feel free to ask for any of the exact recipes.

You can eat organic and still lose weight for sure!

I think eating organic is the best way to go. You don't need to eat 'diet' food just eat very small portions. For the most part that is what I have been doing, smaller portions, more water, less carbs, and little to no junk food.
  • Oh my goodness, the possibilities are endless! Especially with vegetables, fruit and lean meats. Focus on these. As for "diet breads", you know, if you focus on only having 1-3 servings of grains a day (whole wheat or whole grain bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta etc.), you'll be fine eating regular bread.

Are you asking for recipes or just what organic foods you should be eating?

Up with the fruit and veggies, down with the dairy and bread!

You really don't need to change your diet much; just have more of the low calorie stuff and less of the high calorie stuff.

Organic is the way to stay....just watch your portions and use healthy oils like olive oil....count your calories, look up different recipes so that you will have a variety of things to eat....diet food is boring and alot of it is processed. That's not good for you. Plus eating diet food to lose weight doesn't stick, because it is not realistic to think you will eat that way forever....I wish I could go all organic....

I have eaten a "clean" diet with no processed foods and heavy on the organics for seven years and I started off on MFP in February 30 pounds overweight. The problem isn't what you eat, it is how much you are eating. I eat the same diet but with reduced portion sizes and the weight is coming off. You don't need to eat food with unidentifiable ingredients to lose weight, you just need to reduce your calorie consumption.

I also bake my own bread. Instead of two slices I have one. Rice and pasta portions have been cut in half. Ditto for meat portions. All you need to do is weigh and measure. I used to free pour olive oil when cooking now I measure out one teaspoon...surprisingly that has saved tons of calories.

You can't get any cleaner of eating than you are eating...........

You said what caused it is just eating too much. Teach your body better portions and drink more water and I think you are good to go!!!

Stay away from the diet foods!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't necessarily choose all organic, but I often pick "natural" over "diet".

For example, I was looking at hot dog buns, and Sara Lee has some 80 calorie wheat buns, but when I looked at the ingredients there were over 100 (I'm guessing but it was like 3 paragraphs of crap)! So instead, I chose some brand that I can't remember that was 100% whole wheat with only like 8 ingredients but with 150 calories or so. I'd rather know what I'm putting in my body instead of filling it with chemicals just to save some calories!

so I guess what I am hearing is no "cheater" organic foods. I just sometimes give in to empty nutrition for the sake of bulk without calories. I know that is bad and my body really gets upset with me. I will just continue to eat (what seems to be in my mind) microscopic portions for a while till I get acustomed to what is "normal" for me instead of what I feed my 6'2" football player. Thanks for all the help.

That was the tough part for me. All I needed to do was reduce portion sizes but my meals looked so SMALL!!! Especially compared to my skinny husband's portions who is well over 6 feet tall. I have been doing MFP for about 1.5 months now and it probably took a full 4 weeks (maybe more) before these small portions seemed "normal" and I now find the smaller portion satisfying. It is certainly an adjustment but just keep measuring and weighing and your portions will look less microscopic to you in time. I know exactly how you feel!

    DO NOT EAT 'DIET' FOODS!!!!!!!!

You already sound like you have a way healthier diet than the majority of people in the Western world. Keep on it. Eat less. eat slower and for heavens sake enjoy your food!! None of what you are eating is 'bad' - it's just how much of it you may be eating that is bad.

UGH I am throwing that diet bread away, I thought I would finish it because I paid for it but I can't stand it. Made a loaf of homemade organic wheat and oat bread- 150 cals per slice but I will work it out somewhere else UMMMMM love my real bread, lose that nasty cardboard fake stuff.
