I've got my first 5K next month. I hope just to be able to run the whole thing - I can't even imagine completing it in under 30!

What did you do to train?

Good job, the time is awesome. I am trying to decide a time to shoot for my 5K in May, maybe I'll try for sub 30 . . . it's a longshot, but just maybe . . . thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks so much everybody! I honestly did want to set very high expections for myself so I wouldn't be disappointed but I thought that I would just shoot for 30 or under. Really, my main goal was to (like I said in the OP) just not die!

As far as training goes, I just mapped out a route and just ran it about 4 times a week. At first, if I needed to walk, I walked....I didn't push myself too hard but as time got closer to my 5K, I really tried to just run the whole way and not go for speed. Now, I'm about to start training for a half using www.marathonrookie.com
