I started taking Chromium about 2 weeks ago and I can already feel a difference in my appetite. When taking 1 Chromium capsle 3 times a day with meals I seem to be able to fight over my starch and sugar cravings (which is almost impossible for me!) Give this trace mineral a try... it might help you to regulate your blood sugar levels as welll ! :)

Yes, I've been taking Chromium as well and have noticed my cravings for sugar diminished and don't get shakey anymore.

What dosage are you taking 3 times a day. I've been taking 200mcg once a day. I thought any more than that was not safe unless for a very short time.

I'll read you link. Maybe my question is answered there...

    Edited to say:
I read the link you provided and it doesn't seem very supportive of Chromium supplements. The clinical nutritionist I saw some time ago was much more optimistic about the benefits of supplementing with chromium but no more than 200mcg per day).

    Hi slimkitty! :)

I take 200mcg 3 x's daily, with all my meals. I use Chromium Plus from SISU. I haven't really noticed any side effects that are serious..but I do sometimes get headaches if I don't drink enough water when taking this mineral.

bump. I don't have appetitie or food craving issues. But I do have sugar cravings that sometimes are hard to control.

I'll keep this in mind. I'm wary of taking any kind of supplement. It's good to have information from a nutritionist. This is their area of expertise.

Maybe this should be something I need to look into, its not real foods such as a greasy hamburger"does sound good" but it is CHOCOLATE and the only other major craving would be something ,anything cheesy......two hard to controll issues as of now !!!!!

Chocolate cravings are often but not always an indication of magnesium deficiency. Try getting some Mg in citrate, aspartate or malate (in order of increasing cost) in a capsule form. I've reduced/eliminated my chocolate cravings following a no-grain diet and supplementing with about 300 mg of Mg citrate/day (150 mg twice a day)

I've had some major chocolate cravings during my life. I've had my magnesium levels measured and they were on the high end of the normal. Deficiency in magnesium is definitely one cause of chocolate cravings, but there are other things to consider. Chocolate tastes pretty darn good and there was a time when I could have lived off of it. I never left a single store without buying a huge chocolate bar. I've gone out in some of the worst storms to buy chocolate. Now in the past two weeks that I have been supplementing - I have no desire for chocolate. I've been grocery shopping twice and did not buy any chocolate.
I have been taking a 100mg 5HTP supplement last thing before I go to bed at night and first thing in the morning. I also take 200mcg of Chromium piccolinate with breakfast. My mood has definitely improved, sleep is better and cravings for sugar and chocolate are gone. In the last couple of days I've even started drinking my coffee without sugar and I don't miss it.

I have been worried about taking any kind of supplements also, but after having a blood test done and having my vitamin and mineral levels measured I knew exactly what I needed to take. I had the proof in front of my eyes that I was severely deficients in several vitamin and minerals. It just goes to show how fragile our bodies are, and we need good nutrition from food and ceratin supplements every day.

I am curious about something that maybe the people in this thread can answer. I used to have a major sweet tooth, so sugar cravings. I cut nearly all refined sugar and refined flour out of my diet and found those cravings are gone.

Do those that still have these cravings still eat refined sugar or white flour products? I am wondering if eliminating that is what stopped mine or if there is something I added to my diet that stopped it. I am not in any way saying what is right or wrong here, just simple curiosity. I do have Chromium in my vitapak supplement, but I was taking that before when I still had the cravings too.

Chromium is a recommended trace mineral for men's health. Can't remember where I read hat, but it was from a fairly reputable source. If you look at most multi's for men, they include chromium, I think chromium picolinate.

Chocolate cravings can also be a sign of a B12 deficiency...
