Simple Core Exercises

Hi all I was just wondering if anyone knows some really easy and simple core exercises beside typical crunches. I don't have much time but maybe 10-15 minutes in the morning or evening. Anyone have any info they could pass my way? I just know doing a little bit everyday will be helpful.

    Planks are about as simple as you can get.

    if you know anything about yoga poses modified and full boat pose are great for your abs, as are leg raises.

    Crunches are not very helpful for core anyway, although they have their place, since the core muscle primary purpose is to stabilize your torso. Planks are very good both standard one and side planks, and they are pretty straight forward exercises. Although many still encourage people to do twisting exercises like Russian Twists, I would avoid them because they hold a very high danger of injury.     You have a world of ideas with a swiss ball. You can try pushups with your feet on the swiss ball, planks (which are also called bridge holds (stay as long as possible with your body completely flat, resting on your elbows and toes only).

    If you have a stronger core, try walking lunges with a weight held in front of you, as you lunge, hold the position and twist to one side, come out of the lunge into the next one, twist the other side.

    Many core exercises need to be done fairly accurately to make sure you dont have injury, so I would suggest consulting a PT initially to get them right. Invest in a swiss ball too! They are FANTASTIC to sit on at work instead of a chair - they force your core to work harder to sit upright!

    Remember if you are doing abdominal work to exercise your lower back to balance it out. You can damage your back doing too much ab stuff if you don't strengthen your back too.

    It's quite unclear in that video...but you should raise your legs so that your feet don't touch the ground :smile:

    I like doing the "8 min abs" video that can be found on youtube. It is a series of different crunch movements that works all of your abs. The thing I like the most about this video is that it doesn't concentrate on one area for 3-4 moves and then switch, it mixes them to make it easier to work all the muscles.

    I agree, I love my ball and use it instead of a chair. I do a lot of 'circles' while reading, watching tv or even now while on the computer!!! you can reall feel your core working.
