i always had it at lightly active but changed it to sedentary today but now im not sure. Im a stay at home mom so i cant really go by their examples since im not working at a desk or anything like that. Do i sit on my couch all day? no. but im a walking all day?, thats a no. Im pretty much up and down for half the day, then when the bf gets hom efrom work- usually 1 or so, we tend to do our errands, go in this store then that so im doing some walking around then, also, when im home, im usually up cleaning or trying to keep busy, i do sit in intervals when im at the comp..and i also know this question of activity level isent supposed to include the fact that u work out everyday. so what do u think i should put? what do u put?

I say lightly active, then if I really exert myself, I log it, like vigorously cleaning.0

I would try the change up to sedentary and follow those guidelines to see what it does for you. Maybe the lightly active was a bit high for you. They are just guidelines so since you haven't had much success with where you were, the change might do you good. It can't hurt really since you would be going to a lower activity level.0

I put mine as sedentary as well because some days I'm at work and can sit all day with the exception of running to the bathroom or maybe or another part of the school and some days I do seem to be pretty active HOWEVER I figured if I set it lower and I happen to do a little more moving than sedentary then it doesn't hurt anything where as if I set it on light and Im moving less than I should then I think i would be slowing my weight loss.
Just my personal thoughts ... dont know if they are right or not ...:ohwell:0 -
I work from home and this is my same complaint. There should be a category between sitting on your butt all day and being on your feet all day. I have mine set to sedentary even though I'm not sedentary, but since I'm nearly to goal now, it's only about a 30 calorie a day difference for me.0

I don't think you're sedentary. Sedentary: my mother in law. She stands or walks only to awaken and go to the chair, if she needs to go to the bathroom, get food or a new cocktail, or to leave the chair for bed each night. Other than that she's sitting on her (large) behind.
You are lightly active, IMHO.0 -
I put light active and I am a stay at home mom. I figure the all the cleaning and playing with my son is light activity. I don't log anything but exercise.0

just because you stay at home doesn't mean you're sedentary. Stay at home moms actually move a lot.
I find that these guidelines are so out of whack and general. You should really find out what your true BMR is and adjust your calories on what your real number is. I was set super low and it turns out my BMR is over 1800. I was starving myself.0 -
I'm a stay at home mom and my activity level is set to lightly active. I know I spend a fair amount of time sitting, but I'm also up and down, changing diapers, doing dishes and laundry, etc.0

I have to do these calculations daily as part of my job (personal trainer and nutritionist) to help my clients estimate their calorie needs. Here are the guidelines for the categories:
Sedentary--less then 30 minutes of walking around daily (not counting planned exercise)
Lightly Active--30 to 60 minutes of walking around daily (not counting planned exercise)
Moderately Active--60+ minutes of walking around daily or more vigorous movement for 30-45 minutes a day (not counting planned exercise)
Extremely Active--120+ minutes of walking around daily or more vigorous movement for 45-60 minutes a day (not counting planned exercise)
Athlete--Vigorous activities for more then 60 minutes a day0 -
I put sedentary, then log all the exercise I do, which usually comes out at quite a lot.0

I'm a SAHM too. I said sedentary.0

I do the same thing. My job requires me to sit for 10 hours a day, so any exercise I do gets logged.0 -
im also a sahm, and set as sedentary. i do sit a lot - i do get up to do laundry and make meals, etc. grocery shopping twice a month but other than those days im mostly sitting unless exercising or cleaning. when i do stuff with the kids its mostly sitting games/play . im still not sure if i should change it to lightly active or not.0

I'm a SAHM too ,I put sedentary b/c i pretty much am, I get up to change diapers, clean, make food, drive my son to school, play with the kids, but it all pretty much adds up to me sittin down for most of the day. When the weather gets nice i'll probly change it to lightly active as I will be outside with the kids most of the time.0

I'm glad you asked! I'm a SAHM too and I put sedentary, but I log light/vigorous cleaning, etc. I will probably do as the above poster mentioned and change it in better weather because we're outside playing most days.0
