All my life I have hated running. I have had bad knees from football, baseball, and wrestling. Well I noticed they got real bad when I was really heavy now as my weight has been dropping and conditioning my knees with the stairmaster I noticed they dont hurt much at all now plus I think lack of water and high sodium content had something to do with the constant inflamation.
Friday I did my hour of stairmaster and felt great. On my way to go get a towel I walked past the treadmill and said F it, whats the worst that could happen? I hopped on and did a mile. Knees feel fine and I think I might just be hooked.
I only did it at 6.5mph/no incline pace but I actually enjoyed it so tonight I am shooting for 5 miles at the same pace after I do my 1 hour of stairmaster!

I never thought I wanted to "run" for enjoyment either, but when I started walking my dog we'd always walk up the hill then back down, eventually walking it a 7 mile adventure... After a year and getting more serious about my health, I just wasn't feeling like that walk was doin it for me anymore, so we started running all the downhill sections because I found it actually felt better on my hips at times than the walking.
Fast Forward to winter, and after spending waay too much money on winter running apparel that doesn't fit me at all anymore, I got the gym membership... And now... I hope I can get an extra 30-45 minutes on the treadmill on top of my regular plan... Crazy how things change when you refocus yourself, huh?0 -
I always thought I hated running too, until about Jan this year when the bug just kicked in one day. I like that you don't have to think, you just go. It's a great way to clear your head.0

Running is my "place" , my escape. I love running outdoors so I can feel connected with the earth. What a great feeling!
Good for you!0 -
I'm part of this group now too. I am now a runner! I can't believe I can say that!0

I have a love/hate relationship with running... I have to fight with myself to get myself to go run and I absolutely hate the first 1/4 mile or so. After that first 1/4 mile I absolutely love running and pushing myself a little harder every time.0

Running is addictive! A word of caution though, take it slow for your knees sake. I've heard great things about Joint juice (iahve some in the pantry but haven't had to use it yet). In addition to sodium, sugar will also increase joint pain (and they often go hand in hand) so keep an eye on that. Have fun! I can see you in a race in about 6 months time
