I hate to go over 1000 cals

so i dont know when this started but i hate to go over 1000 calories a day. I feel a bit like ive failed if i go over that thousand... Not sure what to make of it and i dont want to go into this starvation mode.
Does anyone else have this problem??

Nope. Your body needs food to survive, it's fuel so you're not doing your body any good if you don't eat enough. 1000 calories is very little. Do you workout?0

I dont like to go over 1200 if I don't work out or 1500 if I do, some days I have to make an effort to ensure that I am getting at least 1200 calories. You have to eat!!! I understand because I am in the same boat and totally hung up on it now too, but being healthy means eating healthy and eating healthy means at least 1200 per day. Try not counting once in a while and just letting yourself enjoy food, obviouslly within reason, that's what I do to keep myself sane.0

I feel exactly the same way and even though they say I should eat 1200 calories a day. I know I will gain weight eating that much. I have never eaten much in a day and my body is not used to it. This is just me personal opinion, but I think we know our bodies better than any numbers and statistics. Many of the foods that I eat now are fruits and vegetables, which just do not contain that many calories. I am actually eating smaller amounts, six times a day to keep my body fueled to keep my metabolism going. I am not feeling hungry at all or like I am starving my body. I feel like I am eating more now than ever before. I am starting to lose weight slowly and my energy level is up, so I am using that as my guide. I exercise every day, so I think I have a good healthy routine down that I can continue as a lifetime change. Good luck to you on all your goals!!0

May help to read through these threads to get out of that mindset. I've been there, so I understand - but you really aren't doing yourself any favors. Need to change your attitude toward food - don't treat it like the enemy, as that gives it power over you. YOU are the one in control of it, use it appropriately.

Looking at your food diary you must "feel bad" quite often.....most of the time you eat within the normal range and under 1400 cals which is good for your body and you won't go into starvation mode with what you're currently doing, only 1 or 2 days were 1000 cals and under.0

I would disagree with this. Not having any stats for the OP (height, settings) we have no way of knowing where she's at in relation to a point of famine response. For all we know, she has settings at 2 lb per week loss while being very lean - meaning that if she already has a 1000 cal deficit and then STILL eats under goal, she could very well be near/at a point of starvation mode. Starvation mode doesn't happen "at 1000 cals" or even 1400 cals - it happens when the deficit is larger than what that specific person's body can withstand. That could be 1000, or it could be 1500. That said, it also doesn't happen in one or two days; it takes a prolonged period of underfeeding over weeks or months.
Which leads me to point out a couple of other threads that may be applicable in determining healthy, realistic goals/deficits -

At any rate, to me the main issue here at the moment is not what her actual intake is, but rather that she may be developing an unhealthy relationship with food. She may not yet be drastically underfeeding consistently - but it doesn't take long to get there. Once you develop a mindset of fear regarding a healthy intake, it can spiral out of control very quickly. Obviously, it's much better to address that BEFORE it happens, not after.
So, kudos to OP for recognizing this feeling and doing something about it by asking for help (albeit in a somewhat indirect way.) :flowerforyou:0 -
Yes! Thankyou. I am a bit concerned, as are my boyfriend and parents. Im just obsessively logging stuff, i feel like i have to plan out my whole days food the day before. I have a broken tailbone atm so no exercise. Generally i'll exercise to stay under the 1000.0

Nothing wrong with planning your intake. I do it all the time as well as exercise planning. Works well for me. If you are injured and can't exercise and still want to lose weight then a calorific deficit will be required through diet alone. Is there any other sort of exercise you can substitute? ie. I have an injured leg at the moment so I am just focussing on upper body stuff.0 -
Sorry, I did not know you were injured...that makes it completely diff. I think 1200 a day is for normal people who are walking around.....take good care and hope you heal fast!!!0
